Muscle Oxygen and Pedal Stroke

I thought this was interesting so I thought I’d post here in case anyone else finds it useful.

I have a Moxy which I use periodically. Today I was on the rollers, which I’ve rode for years and always assumed would give me a nice, smooth pedal stroke. However, I am somewhat fatigued and was experiencing a bit of hand numbness. Intuitively, I started to focus on using my core to support my upper body, and (importantly) the sensation of “lifting” or “pedaling in circles”. I noticed that muscle oxygen (measured on my quad) increased around 3-5% at the same power when doing this.
