Athletica.ai Experience – Looking for (Trail) Running Alternatives

This might not be the perfect place to ask, but perhaps not the worst either.

I’ve been using Athletica.ai for over a year now, with a short break last summer before committing to the annual plan. Back then, the “old” interface was still in place, and I was thrilled with the plan builder. My first training block for Wings for Life 2025 was fantastic—I hit a personal best and stayed injury-free, which was a huge contrast to other “dynamic” plans I’d tried.

Fast forward a year, and a lot has changed. Athletica has become a mixed bag for me, and my trust in the app is wavering. I still love the community and appreciate how supportive and friendly the team is, but I’ve encountered more issues in the past few weeks than I did in all of 2025. I like the concept behind the HIIT integration and what Paul is trying to achieve, but…

…the market has evolved. So, I’d love to hear: Does anyone have insights or recommendations on what other platforms do better—or where Athletica still stands out? My focus is shifting toward trail running, where elevation and long distances (like my first 50K, possibly by late 2027) are becoming more important.

I’d appreciate any good reads, personal experiences, or open discussions—thanks in advance!

Trail running is always going to be a difficult one in these sorts of questions I feel. The elevation gain/loss, type of terrain, changeable weather, longer distances etc are difficult to plan for.

I’ve used Stryd in the past with their power meter (I still use the power, just don’t use their training plans) and I felt it had the same problem with trail running.

For me the athletica experience for my marathon training for the last 5 months has been second to none. I’ve only used static training plans before but none of them pushed me as hard as Athletica has and certainly none of them gave me the ability to swap in swim and bike sessions for my runs when I felt like I needed the rest, or readjusted plans if I did extra or less than was in the plan.
