“HIIT Short (hills) & MIT” training seems impossible, in duration and rest times.
I have these in my plan and I almost cried when I first saw them.
Yes they are very tough and if it’s the first one you do, then you may want ro reduce the amount of reps if you are worried about it.
However once you get into them, they really do push you in the right way. Make sure you properly recover on the rest periods. I’ve definitely noticed the benefits of these ones in my overall running
don’t you think that it is meant to feel brutal? HIIT short hills push max effort with very limited recovery, and adding MIT on top stacks fatigue fast. If it feels impossible, it’s often a sign the intensity or volume needs scaling—not that you’re weak.
2 min walk recovery between each 100m sprint is a lot, enough for your heart rate to drop right down each time.
I saw 25x and thought it must be too much, but then saw 100m not 30:30. That isn’t very long time duration wise, it’s a true all-out effort plus adequate recovery! …but if your base doesn’t feel ready, consider dropping down to 10 or 15x for the first one, see how you feel, might surprise yourself
Keep us posted!
I’ve got this workout pretty much exactly the same planned tomorrow. I highly doubt I’ll be doing all of it, and that’s fine!
No Problem! In this workout Is important ALL OUT sprint and FULL REST RECOVERY too mantain INTENSITY target
How did it go? I ended up with one on Tuesday that was 30 all outs but for just 10 seconds, it was hard but surprisingly a lot of fun!
I actually loved it.
Did 18 x hills hard which were a struggle towards the end, but then it’s really strange when you hit onto the 2 min intervals at threshold. They just feel easier than I suspect you think they would. Probably as they are on the flat!
I’m doing New York Half in March which seems to have more elevation than most half marathons I’ve done so the hill aspect of this workout helps in a number of ways.
Amazing, so happy to hear it!
I got so used to only seeing 30:30 or 45:15 or long HIIT, that this new iteration is pretty fun and a nice change ![]()
Yes I get and have done this similar workout a few times. Mine have a 1’30” rest on the 100m hill sprints. I find this to be the easy part of the workout as the recovery is pretty long. Plenty of time to walk down the hill and go in a few circles at the base of my hill before the next sprint. The 2’ sprints for me are generally the rough part of this one for me.
Yes it is a very doable workout.
Scale intensity, shorten intervals, increase rest, and build gradually. Adjust workouts to your fitness level to avoid burnout.
