I am wanting to get a Garmin watch for better integration with Athletica especially for recovery and HRV type things. I enjoy running and swimming and hope to do a sprint or Olympic distance.
I am curious what people are using and how they are liking them and wish they went with something than they went with. Seems to me way too many options. Feels like I am leaning toward the Forerunner 570 currently.
So many options and all of the baffle me these days.
I bought a Fènix 6 pro about 5 years ago, really because it covered all bases and had proper maps and routing on it, which I find helpful when trail running or hiking.
I think they mostly all do the same thing now, the difference is just the size and screen?
Baffling is an accurate way to describe how Garmin manage their product lines.
At least on their website you can select models and compare features. DC Rainmaker tends to have good writeups/videos too.
I currently use the Forerunner 255, and the Edge 540 and think they’re both okay (although the default workout screen on the forerunner using instantaneous instead of lap pace is a pain). I also always use a chest strap during workouts and use a separate app (Elite HRV) to take a morning HRV. This is because I don’t trust the wrist reading or Garmin’s black box interpretation.
Inputting HRV separately into Athletica is a bit buggy at the minute, but the important bits work and its currently being worked on.
I use a Garmin 255 (however altimeter is broken) and a Garmin Edge 530. It was the cheapest version that provided HRV was my reasoning. The fix for the altimeter - I use the Edge when cycling, but have to manually change the data on Garmin before importing to Athletica or use Strava data which uses map data.
