Easy jog or float recoveries?

Hi, I am a bit confused about the instructions on recovery pace for some intervals. For example, in MIT 12x2/1 the 1min recovery is tagged as “Easy jog” but the prescribed pace is not easy jog indeed. For me (4:09/km threshold pace) the “easy jog” pace prescribed is 5:29 to 4:50/km (screenshot attached) which is zone 2 touching in zone 3. I’d call it rather a float recovery. Easy jog would be at least over 6:00/km. So what’s the optimal recovery pace?

For the preceding short hill sprints the recoveries are “easy walk back” which is certainly not at the pace prescribed. In this case it seems clear to me that I should ignore this pace and just walk back easy, though target pace alerts in your watch are annoying (they can’t be disabled in Coros and the only option is to modify the workout)

It’s a bit like my thread which didn’t get a response, just like yours

Same here, for quite some time I have the feeling that zones either pace / HR or power is not updated based on the data provided.
I reported those thing as a ticket already, I got a response but the problem seems to persist. Overall I have the feeling that the updates on profiles, and other things, is not happening.
With the old UI and system, this was way more responsive and transparent to the training and training load and progress.
I had updates on my HR/power profiles every couple of weeks based on my runs, now, I have the same settings for month even though I am training for a half marathon happening in 3 weeks, I would have assumed things improve on the HR/power/pace front.

Anyhow, Athletica feels a littls off for quite some time now at least for me.

Hey @Jose-Manuel
that is indeed a zone 2 recovery, accurately prescribed for you. to label it “easy jog” is agreeably misleading.

Ignore the pace and walk back to start.

@Dafftt in your case the title was incorrectly labeled as threshold. workout details clearly showed it was a tempo Zone 3 run.

@herbert please provide some examples to support your message. Your message is not giving much content. FYI our team is working on updates to threshold detection area, if your problem is related to that, we will have an update hopefully not too far in the future.

Sorry in advance if this goes slightly off-topic.

To clarify one thing upfront: I am not saying that nothing gets fixed on your end. I do see the effort, and I appreciate the hard work that goes into improving the platform. However, there is a “but”.

For me, that “but” comes down to trust.

I started training with Athletica in 2025, and initially it worked really well. There were a few small quirks, but those could just as well have been user error. Based on that experience, I chose a yearly subscription.
Honestly, if I had to decide today, I would probably choose differently.

The new UI rollout had problems—and still does. I know it’s evolving, but since I am currently preparing for my half‑marathon in mid‑April, this was not the best phase to undermine confidence in the system and its outcomes. This is especially challenging for runners who are relatively new to structured training plans like me.

Here are some issues I’ve run into. I honestly can’t always tell whether they were caused by Athletica or by my own mistakes:

  • Athletica added another run on the same day after completing the planned session.
  • I got a planned run based on power that was way off.
    • I tried to adjust the power profile in the UI but couldn’t.
    • I went through the Plan Wizard hoping it would correctly set the power threshold — it didn’t.
    • I opened a support ticket but never received confirmation that the issue was fully resolved.
    • As of today, it seems to be fixed, but I never got a notification about a power threshold update in the app.
  • My pace profile also never appeared to update (or at least I never got notified). Something seems to have changed now — after roughly six months of training but I cannot tell when exactly.

As my half‑marathon got closer, the training load increased, which is expected and fine. However, I started to feel that my body wasn’t coping well with it. I tried several approaches to signal this to the system:

  • I added detailed comments to workouts (RPE, how I felt, etc.). Maybe I’m using this feedback incorrectly, but the plan didn’t seem to adapt.
    • This may also be related to my original, very optimistic time goal.
  • I changed my goal from a 5:00 min/km pace to just sub‑2 hours / PR using the Plan Builder, but the training load didn’t decrease.
  • I enforced additional rest days due to hip issues, yet the plan didn’t appear to adapt based on my workout comments (at least not in a visible way).

I know that the AI coach chat currently cannot directly modify the plan. Still, I expected the system—or at least the combination of comments and signals—to trigger some adjustments. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough in my feedback; that’s entirely possible.

If I dig deeper into forum posts and documentation, I could probably find more of these quirks, and I’m sure some of them might be on me.

That brings me to my last point.

I understand why users are often redirected to support tickets instead of discussing issues publicly—it makes sense at scale. However, this also means that important information and learnings are effectively withheld from the community.

When problems arise, discussions are often cut short with “please contact support.” In many cases, that becomes the end of the conversation. Even when it isn’t, the eventual solution usually never makes its way back to the forum. This leaves other users in the dark and weakens the sense of community and shared learning. This felt different a couple of months ago.

Having issues discussed and resolved together with the Athletica team in this forum would greatly strengthen the community. For me personally, that openness is one of the main reasons I’m still considering sticking with Athletica until the end of my subscription—rather than switching to alternatives like Humango, Trait, or others.

I truly want Athletica to succeed, and I hope this feedback helps move things in that direction.

Just seen this post Please email us if you need individualized help which is another signal of one of my concerns (not the vacation part, as this is much appreciated  ).

Dear @herbert

Thank you for your message. I fully understand and support the need and wish to openly discuss issues. We encourage active community.

That said, we are a very small team and due to resources it is very difficult to commit the time and thoughts to reply to every thread. I am a problem solver and when I read about a problem, I wish to help out, prompting “please email us” so that we can effectively take care of issues. Handling issues via forum is not practical and individual issues get lost.

When it comes to some of the issues you have experienced, they are not always easy to solve. Some of the long standing issues are being worked on now that WW is updated.
We work really hard with what we have and do appreciate your patience as we build a product that our users are excited to use.

Please keep the conversation going and we will do our best to join in the conversation.

I just returned back to office from a much needed vacation and looking forward to contribute more here.

Best, MJ
