I am currently taking some time off to hopefully heal from a nagging glute injury but hope to be back soon and looking at trying Duathlon. My question is will the Training plan take in to consideration that I’m an experienced cyclist but newbie runner? I don’t want to begin too hard in running and get injured and have to stop both as a result. Thanks!
Hey,
So exciting- a new journey!
Use your expertise from cycling to tune in with your body. How many times a week do you run at the moment?
Thankfully Athletica’s plan is quite conservative exactly to keep you healthy -and not overdoing it, but you always have the workout wizard to change a workout from running to biking (go to injury tab). Also you can just delete a session.
Consider to change up the surface you run on, start with grassy/gravel trails: your legs will appreciate it.
I would start with two runs per week and build up frequency before building up distance/run.

I do not currently run as a couple of years ago I was with a different program and I think it pushed too hard and I became injured. I want to try it again as I really do like running as well as cycling so looking to go easier this time hoping to avoid injury. Basically a couch to 10K I guess is best way to describe it.
Is there a way to manually schedule a MAF test for both the bike and the run in my Duathlon program that is currently set for me? I would like to do one for each to set my baseline as I get started.
Thanks!
Hi @fekieser ,
Yes - what you need to do is to go to your test week and then save the MAF test sessions to your library. I’ve saved all the tests there so you can insert them on any day you wish.
Let me know if that helps.
Best,
Paul
Yes, it does. Thank you!! But more importantly I hope it helps Athletica get me on and keep me on the right track!
Is this a plan that can be added to our calendar? Can it be combined with cycling?
Hi @Pablo_ie , the Kickstarter plan is a free beginner running plan delivered by email. If you want to take advantage of other sports and an AI adapted personal plan (if you’re not already signed up), please give the Athletica free trial a try to see if the paid plan fits your needs.
hey Mark,
I’ve been signed up and reaping the benefits of the cycling plans for a good while now. At this stage of the year, I’m loosely following a bike train to maintain plan. I guess the way to build the 5km plan is just to manually manage the load?
thanks
Thanks @Pablo_ie, you could try the duathlon train to maintain plan that would give you a combination of running and cycling. Any workout you do will be considered in the load/volume of the plan, so even if you keep the cycling plan and just add a run here and there, it will be calculated as part of the total load.
I hope that helps!
