Good ways to add 35K Trailrun race to the schedule

I will be doing a trail run race on a Sunday in November with a length of 35K. It will at most be a B level race for good fun while building up to a road marathon in April 2025. I was just wondering what the best way would be to add this to the schedule.

Part of me is thinking that I should just do it and manually add some taper elements in the week before the race. I have a separate coaching account to deal with that kind of planning.

The alternative is to add it as a marathon length B race and let the system deal with it. As the trail run will be in an area with plenty of sand dunes and short but nasty climbs, qualifying the race as a marathon race could make sense.

For further context, I hate running in sand dunes (I prefer proper mud), and what I as a Dutchman call a short, nasty climb is probably flatland almost everywhere else :wink:

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I would just add it as a marathon, or a half in a higher volume plan. I had a swimrun event last year with around 18k of running and planned it as a half marathon and it was fine.
