Zwift Running Workout Export?

Any good path to get my running workout out and into Zwift like we can do with the file export for biking?

I think its the same method as for the bike…did you try it yet? I have never tried it but looking online it seems like it is the same method… Or you could create it directly in Zwift if its a workout you do weekly, like hill repeats or threshold…

Yes, what @cmaloney said is correct. You just create need to put the .zwo file into your Zwift ID folder. If you are using a Windows based PC Zwift ID Folder PC shows where it is.

If you are on a mac platform I think you have to do it with a wire-to-wire transfer. Please see this link

If Zwift is your thing and you are interested in achieving level 30 running very quickly, then watch this video

Nowadays though I don’t really spend time creating custom workouts for the sake of it. If my workout is too complicated where I cannot remember it, then it’s probably not a good use of my time. Since Garmin syncs everything to my watch or cycling computer then I just have it there and use it if I need a guide. Most of the time though, the weekly workouts with Athletica are so consistent that I can just glance at the main set and have an idea of what I need to do.

Thanks for the info all - I guess where I am hung up is I don’t see a way to get the .zwo file from my runs. There is not an export to .zwo like on the rides. Screenshot attached.

Hi @kolbyk,

At this time, Athletica.ai does not appear to support the .zwo export for running. You have to use a 3rd party or create it in Garmin Connect. I know this doesn’t sound great since you will have two workouts on your calendar for Garmin: one that is pushed to your watch from Athletica, the other that you create natively in Garmin. I think Garmin allows you to export .zwo. Trainingpeaks Premium allows it, but you have to purchase an annual subscription.

Like @cmaloney mentioned you can create it in the Zwift game. Perhaps that is the most streamlined way. What type of treadmill are you using? Do you have a foot pod? The reason I ask is that the wrist-based accelerometers are quite awful, especially indoors. My best experiences are with a foot pod that I calibrate with GPS on a known distance. Then, I know the paces I am running are close to GPS. I also run at 1.0 to 1.5 percent grade on the treadmill and always change up the gradient and pace so I am using different muscle groups. You can DM me or write back here if you want more indoor running tips.

I just noticed you are doing the 30/30s indoor workout or have put screen shots in the thread. So this is quite challenging to do indoors, but it can be done. The reason is that the rest is so short and the treadmill has a ramp up time so the motor and belt can get up to speed.

What I do for this is program my treadmill for a high/low speed setting, that way I only have to touch 1 button. Also, depending on the size of the motor (not yours lol), it will take time for the ramp up so you might just not get enough rest.

The overall goal of this workout is to achieve time above a certain percent of VO2 max, so please keep that in mind if you want to do something like this indoors.

Thanks for the helpful reply. Yeah, I’m in the Midwest, where it’s freezing outside with snow and ice, so I’m not able to make it outside as I would prefer.

That said, my treadmill is a Horizon 7.4 AT which is supposed to have pretty good ramp times. I am using a footpod as well. I’ve really enjoyed running in Zwift when I’m stuck indoors and am able to sync my Footpod cadence, heart rate monitor, and treadmill speed all into it.

Having the workouts in Zwift makes this much easier as it reduces my need to monitor my watch during the run as I can see the workout plan on the screen.

I hope this can be considered as a future feature of Athletica as I don’t have the time or interest to build these out manually. However, I totally understand that my use case may be unique.

Thank you again for the helpful tips and replies!

Great news on the Horizon TM and the footpod.

I’m in the Midwest too and might be able to sync up on a Zwift meetup to get you up and going. My Zwift user is Benjamin Lin.

The Zwift app doesn’t currently allow custom run workout creation (at least it doesn’t for me). I use Zwift Workout Editor (https://www.zwiftworkout.com/). It’s easy to use and save the .zwo file. You can’t create workouts that are a mix of time and distance so you may have to convert some steps in your workouts from Athletica
