Dropping TrainingPeaks and other platforms

I’ve been listening to older episodes of the Athlete 's Compass podcast. On the episode with Bart Buczek he made a comment that got me thinking. He said he’d like to see a mobile app do he can drop TrainingPeaks. I too would like to drop TrainingPeaks, and other platforms, to simplify things. Here are the things I’d like to see in Athletica in order to do so:

Things I use in TrainingPeaks that aren’t available in Athletica

  • ability to view interval performance; how does my last HIIT Interval compare to my first? I don’t see a way to do this analysis in Athletica
  • historical PRs; I ran a 5k TT last week, in TrainingPeaks it is easy to see how this effort compares to my best 5k times last year or all time
  • monthly calendar view; I like to see this week and the next few weeks all together from time to time
  • send planned workouts to Google Calendar; this helps me do schedule and family planning

Things I use in Stryd that aren’t available in Athletica

  • anything for running power; I don’t, yet, see any power data in my runs in Athletica so I use Stryd for all things power based: post run analysis, auto CP calculating

Other improvements

  • workout building; the interface is clunky and slow, saving each step takes time and steps often reorder themselves, Stryd and TrainingPeaks are far superior
  • workout building; specificity, some zones are quite large (e.g. bike zone 7) and sometimes I want to focus on the upper half of lower half of a zone - it would be nice to have a bit more granularity in target zones even if it never gets to the individual watt, second, or beat level

I know some of these are mentioned elsewhere (running power is one of the most viewed threads this month) and I hope others are in the road map too. I thought it might be helpful to collect these ideas in one place so please add yours to the list!

Also Training Peaks lets me sync structured workouts to the Apple Watch more easily. Probably that‘s not a problem for Garmin users but currently using an Apple Watch to workout with Athletica is more work.

Thanks Jeff,

In development - backend work completed by @Stef

In conception phase but developing

Agree - important UI work for the future

Settings > Profile not work for you?

Running power has been released so I would check the Running Power thread for guidance.

Both being considered thanks.

I had the same wish and found a solution for that (until Athletica has it all fixed).

I use intervals.icu as the central hub and on my iPhone have the apps:

  • Intervals companion (donation ware) for the overview and long time graphs
  • Peak Watts (29,95 per year) for activity analysis, PR’s etc

They are both fairly new and heavily developing. I had several requests for both apps which were added.

It does! And I’ve been in this menu many times, not sure how I missed it. Thank you! :man_facepalming:

Just adding my 2c here

With Workout Reserve on your Garmin unit, or in Velocity, you can see in real time where you are in terms of past, and also, how fast you’re recovering. This is really a game changer if you ask me. To be able to see improvement in the moment, or to be able to see hey, I’m not reaching my best today, I’ll do one more set and call it for today. Real impactful decision making process in real-time. It’s amazing. And you can see the WR also in post-analysis.

Zone 7 is large by the nature that it is your top speed, and practically, all you gotta think there is to go as hard as you can. Some days it’s higher, some days lower, but what matters the most is that you gave your best shot. I think it should just be called “Your Best Shot” lol

Great requests and feedback, and great plans and progress by the Athletica crew. Thanks all!

Something small, but tracking equipment like how many k’s you have on your shoes might be a nice addition
