FTP vs Critical Power

I am trying to understand the difference between FTP and Critical Power, I have done some searching but I am finding varied and sometimes conflicting information about CP.
My understanding is that FTP is the theoretical maximum power a cyclist can maintain for an hour before exhaustion.
What does critical power, in an Athletica context, represent?
Is there a direct relationship from CP to FTP?
Thank you for any help!

Hi @Jack . We decided to move over from FTP to CP following this blog and this podcast with colleague Peter Leo. Hope that helps.

Thanks @Jack … the TLDR version is simply that they are for the most part the same, but CP detection is more versatile and accurate.

Very interesting read and listen, I’ve subscribed to the podcast now.
Critical power makes a lot more sense to me now, that it accounts for individual talents rather than giving a single point and extrapolating out from that. Also, using data from multiple activities, instead of relying on a single test seems a more reliable way to go. We’ve all suffered through FTP tests on days when we are feeling off, knowing it doesn’t really represent where we are at.
