Garmin Forerunner 955 charging problems-help?

Hey, does anyone have trouble charging their Garmin? I have forerunner 955 (2years old) and it is taking some trial and error to get it charging. I’ve cleaned the charging port with brushing off any potential “gunk” with no luck.

Same happened with my Fenix watch two years prior. They somehow know how to make a watch last just 2 years so it’s out of warranty when it dies. I don’t think I’ve been good enough this year that I can ask Santa for a new watch… :speak_no_evil:

Anyway, does anyone clean the charging port with anything special and what could I try to extend the life of otherwise perfect watch?

TIA
MJ

I recently had to clean mine out with a toothpick before it would charge. Nothing else got in there enough to clean the gunk out. Also consider checking the cable side for the same thing!

I also had a cheap Amazon special of a cable that stopped working inexplicably, so another cable might be an option to try.

You can get little silicone plugs to stop sweat and dirt getting into the charging/data port. Amazon have them. Might help if it’s accumulated gunk that’s interfering with charging.

Have you tried a new or friend’s cable? It’s a cheaper but maybe less satisfying solution than a new watch.

They have these cheap Garmin charger adapters on Amazon that allow you to charge all Garmins with regular USB-C cables. Quite handy and recommended.

I’ve always used a toothbrush or cotton swab with rubbing alcohol.

I had issues with my 955. I purchased a new cable because what happens after multiple plugs and unplugs is the contact pins get slightly bent and the plastic deforms around it. So the electical resistance changes due to slop. Try a new cable. Sorry to geek out but that is probably what is happening due to wear.

Thank you everyone  I knew I could rely on our amazing Athletica community! I’ll get new cable , clean my contact in my watch and get the little cover for it :fire:

Those adaptors ARE great and very nice to have as a backup as well in case you misplace your ONE charger and your whole fitness program is in grave danger

My Garmin 955 solar would not charge this morning so tried everything above. It still wouldn’t charge & then my wife suggested resetting it… This worked & it now charges!
