Garmin error message

Anyone else having trouble with Garmin constantly sending “exceeded number of workouts” ? I’ve gone to Garmin connect and deleted some files but no change.
Anyone else?
I know we have Garmin wizards here, help a girl out? I have Garmin 955

TIA

Yes. I have this once or twice a month. I also have a FR 955 and when this happens it usually sorts itself out. However, timing can be an issue since it can take a while to sort itself out (I sometimes get these alerts on and off for an hour or so). If I see these alerts after I’ve completed my workout for the day I usually just ignore them and everything is ok. If I get them before I do my workout that day there is a chance that my workout for the day hasn’t made it to my watch yet. I then have to go into the Training section of whatever modality I’m doing and clean up a lot of cruft. The watch seems to try to keep all workouts sent to it for some reason. For example, I did a MAF run about two weeks ago and the workout is still saved on my watch.

I think you already know this based on your comment, but for anyone else; to clean out workouts this is what I do:

  • start a Run activity
  • long press the middle left button
  • select ‘Training’
  • select ‘Workouts’
  • select a workout to delete
  • press the top right button
  • select delete

I sometimes have to remove 15 or more workouts to get my workout for that day to load. Thankfully this is very infrequent for me (I do most of my workouts in the morning and I seem to get these “exceeded number of workouts” messages mostly in the afternoon).

I wish there was a way to mark some workouts as “Keep” on the watch for things like tests and tell it to remove all others upon completion…

Hope that helps!

Thank you for your reply. Garmin says you can only have 25 workouts saved to your watch. I haven’t had any issues with this for years that I’ve used Garmin- only about the last month or so; so it must be something new.

Maybe Athletica is sending more workouts?

My guess as to why I’ve seen it pretty much since I got the watch a few years ago is that I often have the same workout from multiple sources depending on where it was created. In the past I’ve had TrainingPeaks, Stryd, and Garmin all send a version of my daily workout (not because I wanted them to, they just did). Today I have 2 copies - the Athletica version and a version from Stryd that I created so that I can follow the power guidelines.

Are you in a phase of your training plan where you’re have a large(r) number of multi-workout days or something like that?

I’d also be interested in a way to make these messages go away permanently, but so far they’ve been more of a nuisance than any sort of hindrance for me.

My sources tell me several other athletes have the same issue so seems like a garmin bug to me.
I’ll keep digging… will report back

Not a new issue and people have been discussing it on Garmin message boards for years. The limit is still 25 saved workouts on most devices. It’s not a memory issue as much as keeping a cleaner user experience.

Thanks @mgiven !

Just odd that it just all of a sudden started for me - you’d think I would have gotten these through out the years I’ve been using Garmin and haven’t done anything different or saved any workouts. But deleted what was saved on my watch let’s see

It also just started for me, about 2-3 days ago. It goes off and sends me the warning alert over and over for a few minutes, I clear it, it does it again immediately, several times. Something must have changed since it’s never happened before and now happens 2-3x a day and in frequent batches.

I’ve been getting the same issue. I followed the Garmin help advice, and looked at the workouts stored on my watch and I only have 4 saved workouts, so should not be hitting the 25 workout limit.

I connected my watch to my laptop and looked in the Workouts folder. There is a folder called schedule and it has 40 workouts in it labeled by date starting today and going out to 8th May. These are the workouts that show up in the calendar view in Garmin.

I wonder whether the workouts in the Schedule folder are being included in the 25 workout limit. I suspect that every time Athletica adjusts my schedule it sends the new schedule to Garmin, which triggers the error message. Not sure whether it is Garmin that has become more fussy about the number of scheduled workouts or whether Athletica is sending more.

Thanks, this is helpful. I couldn’t find more than a couple workouts on my watch either, and hardly ever plug into my laptop to check.

Is there any way in the API for Athletica to overwrite vs. saving duplicate workouts?

I believe athletica is sending future workouts - I’m on this one. Please hang tight

This is what I have noticed as well last month. First I have "manually’ removed all workouts on March 30th as i thought this could have been related to multiple plan re-generated but then the error came back again last week.
I have now 16 pages of 25 workouts each on Garmin connect, all sent by Athletica over the last 3 weeks.

Please have a look now , it should be fixed for everyone, only sending the next week’s workouts. You may have to manually delete from the watch. Go to

Let me know please :folded_hands:

While it looked ok yesterday evening (20 workouts synced and about 14 scheduled), I only have 1 scheduled workout set on my Garmin this morning for the next 7 days, hence the reason I did not have the workout prompt for my swim

Hey @nicoguilbert sorry about that.
Thanks for letting us know

Please check tonight and tomorrow morning again and report back. You can always send your swim workout to your watch if it is not there in the morning but ideally we want your workouts there before you jump in the pool.

Looks like Athletica just pushed some workouts for me as I got the same message again.

Checking the workouts on my watched it has reached 25 scheduled, compared to 1 this morning

Those includes workouts from today to next Tuesday included, so 8 days. But looking at the details I see duplicates for multiple days, example :

Interestingly, not all are duplicates, while the previous example has the same duration and instructions, there are some with different duration/instructions :

My plan do not have duplicates

@nicoguilbert could you please sync your watch with Garmin connect and report back?

It does not help, and looking at Garmin connect, I can also find the “duplicates” in the calendar

It reminds me the sync issue I have reported between Athletica and intervals.icu where Athletica was pushing an additional and different plan
