General Questions and how to best Structure my 2025 Year in Athletica

So far I am an athletica fan (without any proven success) but I have only used the platform for about 8 weeks.

I have tested out some of the features and besides the missing “lock” button on sessions I don’t want altered I have enjoyed athletica so far. I have listened to a few Athlete’s compass podcasts as well and have enjoyed them.

I have Four questions:

1.) I qualified for the Age Group Sprint Triathlon in Wollongong next year and am excited to go and push myself on the Sprint distance.
The event isn’t until October 17th, 2025 (it is on a Friday and I can’t select that in my calendar which is an issue that needs to be fixed as some events occur during the week) and it is my main focus.
As Triathlete’s like to be busy I will have some other events, including an Olympic Distance early in August, the remaining events will be sprint distance or shorter runs.

Should I select the sprint distance plan or the Standard distance plan?
What would your suggestions be to best plan for this?

2.) I started with the low volume plan and typed in 5-10 hours time. I believe when I am around home I actually have about 7-10 hours per week. I would assume I should select the mid volume plan or does it make a difference if you type in your minimum and maximum?

3.) Athletica asks me to do my easy runs at a maximum of 132 beats per minute.
The moment I start the running outside in a running motion (no matter how slow of a pace) my heart rate jumps into the 140s. I did a 39 minute run/walk this morning and I had to walk so much to keep the hear rate down which seems odd. Unfortunately the heart rate is accurate as I manually checked as well
I have heard from local running coaches that they move the zone 2 up for running. Is this something I can set up in Athletica.
It seems odd to me that I can run a 5 km race in about 20:30 right now but I am unable to run at all in Zone two.

4.) Is there a way to have a coach assigned through athletica that one can meet with once a month or so to ensure everything is set up correctly and that the zones are set right etc? I find this could be helpful as I am unsure I have everything set up right (see Zone 2 running).

Any help is appreciated.

So far a big fan and I understand that this is always a work in progress and some tweaking here and there necessary.
Very eager to see the first results in the spring after using the platform for longer in the build up.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @KevKoe ,

Bug has been reported

  1. If the sprint distance is your goal A race, I would select that as such. But push the volume if possible to your limits. As you have set up looks good.
  2. Yes - mid volume would be a good idea based on (1), and perhaps extend the min and max out if you can handle it (i.e., towards 12 - range 5 to 12)
  3. Yes - go to Overview=>scroll to bottom to find Zones. Select run. Raise the critical HR value to your liking. Wait a few hours to take effect. Worth a read potentially.
  4. Absolutely. Please have a scroll through options and DM me if you have any questions.
