Prof at High Performance Health Podcast

Prof had a great conversation with Angela Foster

“Together they examine the importance of understanding training stress versus life stress, the benefits of zone 2 training for recovery and fat metabolism, and how wearable technology can optimise training plans.”

This made me think of a conversation I just had with a buddy of mine. He’s a super strong master’s cyclist, averages like 900 - 1000 hours of training a year. He reached out to me a couple of weeks ago asking if I knew anything about high glucose and A1C levels in endurance athletes. His scans returned moderately high levels. I didn’t, but a web search returned something that might explain his results: exercise-induced insulin resistance.

If anyone at Athletica or related to Athletica has the ability to discuss this, it might make for a good podcast topic. Maybe it’s as simple as eating too much sugar…I dont’ know. But if exercise-induced insulin resistance is a thing – a potential natural byproduct of doing loads of endurance work – I would certainly like to understand it better.

Hi @Fazel,
I speak about this issue a fair bit. Here is the latest release with Trevor and Mikki on Fast Talk Labs How to Fuel for Health - Fast Talk Laboratories

Hey, :wave:t2:

We’ve talked about this on the Athlete’s Compass podcast also with the Prof.

I was in the same boat with your buddy- in fact I bet many of us are especially as we age. I would not say it’s the aerobic endurance work but how we fuel for those long runs and rides. Gels, candy, coke, chews, muffins, sports drinks. We intuitively know it’s not good for us, but hey; since we are doing 4-5 hrs rides, and if everyone is chewing down gels - can’t be anything wrong with it, right ?!

The podcast Prof links above is a really good episode to understand this better and how to fuel instead. Highly recommend a listen!

Not sure where in the world you are but if this is something you are concerned with, base season is a great time to “clean the house” .

This was really good. I shared it with my buddy and am now enjoying unsweetened coffee and peanut butter toast sans jam.
