Just wanted to check in with some questions about the 70.3 mid volume plan.
There are quite a lot of swims sometimes. Maybe it’s because I don’t swim starting with offseason up until DEC/JAN at least but athletica gives me a lot of swims, like 6 in this week:
Seems like i have to move up my planned first race a little bit. Guess this will recalculate my weeks of course but for example I’m in Base Week 3 now (actually for the 2nd time I think because already recalculated the plan once or twice). I want to finally progress into a build block with a little more intensity but I guess changing the race will recalculate the plan and throw me back to Base 1 right? Can I somehow prevent this?
Thanks for your questions. I hope I can give you some clarity.
Swimming is often the hardest part for many triathletes. IMO if you want to improve swimming you’ve got to get in the pool. Granted, you could do what I did and dedicate longer time in the pool and only go 3x a week and do double sessions. Start and stop watch after first and then do the same for the second, recording two sessions.
Or use the workout wizard to change the extra swims to runs or bikes using the injury tab. Use common sense there.
I believe Build starts 16 weeks out from race day so if you’re racing in the spring, you will get build starting about December. Build will have more race specific sessions. If this is too early for you, use the workout wizard or do zone 2 training sessions instead of race specific work. Trust your gut- make it work for you many ways to skin the cat.
I am also doing some early season races and hitting build phase now but since I had a big year of two IM races I feel like I am not quite ready for build yet and will do more zone 2 training than race specific work until later in December/ January.
You could go back to your base weeks and save some of those aerobic sessions into your library and change the race specific sessions with your library items. Note that when you do that, the AI will not adjust the load on those which I think is fine with zone 2 sessions.
@Prof flagging you here to hear your thoughts. Would it be possible to have access to some base weeks?
If you move your race then the program thinks your race is further out.
I’d suggest something is maybe wrong with that plan if you have 6 swim sessions in a week.
I did the mid volume 70.3 training plan for most of this year and the most I ever saw was 4 sessions in a week.
On the race specific efforts, I loved doing these early. It’s a good test of where you are fitness wise and I find the quite fun to do, especially when you aren’t racing. You can never practice that bike to run feeling enough I think!
