Taper Week 2 Load looks too far too high

This week is Taper Week 2.

I did an easy unplanned outing today, but the planned scheduled work looks far too high for what is meant to be a taper week.

Cycling single day event , mid volume.

I have a similar issue. I’m in taper week 2 ahead of Wildflower triathlon next week, and my load (particularly my cycling load with two 90+ min sessions on weekdays) seems too high - certainly higher than it has been in recent weeks. Can someone advise? I’m planning to take shorter sessions anyways to avoid overtraining ahead of my race.

Looking at my load numbers the taper week 2 load was 31.8% greater than the build 3 week before. I wonder if it’s meant to be 31.8% less than the build 3 week load?

Anyway, I’ve changed tomorrow’s VO2 session to have 72.6% of the build 3 week load.

Hi @Francois normally 12 hours of weekly training isn’t a concerning amount of load for something as challenging as Wildflower (which I found challenging). HOWEVER - context always and the little man in your head probably knows more than all of us. In your recovery profile I found the following below. Therefore there’s definitely no point in pushing through this. You should emphasize aerobic easy training and recovery techniques. Aerobic training (easy riding, easy swimming) in particular resets the parasympathetic system while at the same time building the aerobic foundation needed for the task ahead of you. In summary, I wouldn’t blame the load algorithm per se but more the fact that we need to work to integrate the load response (i.e., recovery profile) into the prescription. Navigate wisely as you are doing, keeping things easy and ticking over and continue to focus on the recovery and things that lower stress in your life. Best of luck.

Thanks @Prof, I didn’t notice that my recovery profile was dipping - this is useful and aligns with my perception. I’ll take it easy this week and next week.
