Sessions during taper week

Hi all

I am in taper week and also this time it is prescribed me what I think is a very heavy load session for a race coming in 5 days.

I have a strenght session on bike of 1.5 hours with a load of 87. I always skipped this sessions because I thought they were to much but I still continue having this one in my taper week plan. So I would ask, is there a scientific reason to do so heavy strenght activity just few days before the race?

Thank you

I have had this session leading up to all of my races and I find that the Strength endurance sessions are not as taxing as something like a HIIT session. Mine usually fall on a Monday, with the race being Sunday - which should be lots of time to recover from. With that being said, if you are worried about it impacting your race, you could lower the planned watts or do just one or two sets instead of the three….

Thank you @cmaloney

Yes this is what I do…or I change session or I do it little bit different.

I normally recover from strenght sessions in few days and I would be to much near the race. But as I always have on plan I ask myself if there was benefit on doing this during taper week

This is a great question. I also ask that myself. I’ll adjust that taper week myself when I get there but I wonder if there’s scientific base for sessions like that (and others during that week) so close to race day. I usually do shorter sessions with some race pace stimuli but always thought there’s nothing to be gained on taper week but a lot you can lose by getting fatigue accumulated or by getting injured (especially on a run session). Sorry - this is not answering your question but I hope it just adds my concerns to yours and brings some interesting inputs from the pros here. Tks for your question!
