I’m considering the Black Friday discount deal, but I typically row a lot over the winter months and I want to make sure the system will work for me. I actually had thought I had cancelled my subscription in September, but it appears I didn’t complete the process.
Anyway, the system isn’t generating a power profile for rowing even though all of my rows have been pulled over from Strava. When I look at the analysis of these rows, power metrics are available, i.e., average power and mp4, but power does not appear in the plots, only heart rate and speed. So - I’m wondering if the power channel is getting pulled or not?
Are you by chance rowing on an RP3? If yes, I can offer a workaround, as it seems the power is lost from the RP3 file due to a bit of a formatting issue.
Nope, I’m on a Concept2. I am not sure what’s going on. I downloaded the fit file from Intervals and then uploaded, and that didn’t change anything, but it appears the session didn’t overwrite the file from Strava. I created a new dummy workout and uploaded the fit file from logbook and the power channel appears. I’ve dropped the connection with Strava and connected with logbook. Hopefully that fixes the issue.
Hi @Fazel,
I’m checking into your profile now and doesn’t look like you are connected to Strava from what I can tell. Can you please try re-connecting and wait about 12 hours? If that doesn’t do the trick please report back here and we’ll look deeper for you.
Best,
Paul
Hi @Prof. I actually disconnected Strava so I could try the Concept2 connection. This morning’s workouts loaded with power so I’m happy.
I was then attempting to see if the discount code would still work but I think I messed up my account. I added the code but stopped the transaction midway through (because I was only attempting to see if the discount would be applied, and instead it appeared the transaction was being processed) and now the system is saying my trial is over. Could you look at this when you get a chance? I was charged in November so I don’t believe this is correct. Thanks!
Hi all. This is still not working correctly. Here is what I am observing.
Strava
Strava sync is quick and seamless, however the row power channel is not imported (session averages are present, but the power channel does not appear in the analysis). This means the power profile graph is based only on manually imported activities (or activities brought over from Concept2), e.g., I’ve imported rows back through the first of September, but my power profile is based on three activities.
Concept2
Syncing with Concept2 lags, sometimes significantly. However, power is imported. This morning’s row did not come over within two hours. I checked the connection and it said “last activity at 5 am” which is when I started the workout, but the workout was never brought over into the planned activity.
Ideally, the power channel for rowing would be brought over from Strava as that sync appears instant, but at this point I may just be manually uploading. Screenshots attached.
@MarkB, I’m having the same issues with my Strava imports of my rowing data….no Timestamp (stroke by stroke) Power data is imported into, or being processed by, my Athletica account even though I see it in my intervals.icu and rowsandall.com accounts for the same workouts (from STRAVA). It does appear Power summary data is coming through, but not the second-by-second Power data.
I have at least two Athletica Support requests in the que that partially include a variance of this issue that I suspect may be is impacting the accuracy of my training zones. I too have tried uploading a workout .fit file I know has power data in the timestamp rows from a non-Strava source directly into a completed Athletica workout (with a Strava auto downloaded .fit), but Athlectic redownloads, and uses, the Strava .fit file instead.
The only way I can see any TimeStamp rowing Power data (and analysis) is to import unplanned rowing workout .fit files from sources other than Strava, or create a workout in Athletica and attach a non-Strava .fit file to it.
I now realize this has been an issue since I joined in October, and probably why only one test workout from two separate test weeks are being used in my rowing charts… can you help…this is getting frustrating……
Just a thought, @Firestop, as I had this issue with RP3 files. Though the power shows up in Strava, an export from Strava to Athletica would lose the power.
Perhaps one thing to try is to open the .tcx file (would need to convert the .fit file first: FIT SDK | Garmin Developers) in notepad and see if there is an extra “intro” in the power data. In the RP3 files, the “ns3:” bit somehow blocks the power data from being seen on certain platforms (intervals.icu discussion noted the issue and they incorporated a fix into the import process).
If I search/replace “ns3:” for “” in the file, then import to athletica (after the extra step of coverting from .tcx to .fit in gotoes), the power shows up.
Perhaps taking out that garmin bit could make it work? Possible to include int he file processing once uploaded @Prof or @MarkB (since there are far more C2 users out there than RP3 rowers)?
Well, a mini test seems that might not be an issue (at least with files directly from log.concept2.com). A .tcx from C2 with those garmin headers (not sure if that’s what to call that bit) imported fine (converted in gotoes), as does the .fit file (straight from C2). You can see the files on 05.27.2022 in my user if desired.
@SoCal1x , I saw your follow-up post where your initial thought might not be the issue…I tend to agree.
My rowing data flow into Athletica is from Ergatta (a branded WaterRower) > Strava >Athletica. Given we (and apparently other rowers using Strava) are seeing the same behavior, it suggests to me the issue is more systematic within Athletica’s coding as to how it is reading Strava’s .fit file data streams when the workout is identified as “Rowing”.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts….I learn more about this topic with every post!
What I don’t understand is when you export the workout file from Strava, it appears to be the Concept2 .fit file. Is Strava sending something different to Athletica? This doesn’t make much sense because if you manually uploaded the Concept2 .fit file into Athletica, the power stream is recognized.
For what it’s worth @Prof@MarkB , I have turn-off my STRAVA connection until this issue is solved, and will just manually upload my .fit files from my intervals icu account until then…or, an integration with intervals.icu is created. As I look back, this is why my Test Week results have not been factored into my Athletica Rowing Chart, and other metrics.
I’m now in the process of manually unpairing the STRAVA auto uploaded workouts, deleting them, and then pairing the scheduled workout (now classified as “”added by me” with a valid .fit one by one for each previously imported STRAVA workout since October. The process of manually attaching valid .fit files continues to be overridden by a redownload of the incomplete .fit from STRAVA. (Hoping this stops as I have D/C’ed STRAVA). This is a pain in the a**, but at least my data will eventually be complete………
I’ve thought about this but it would take a lot of effort. I have my PD curve in WKO so I’m hesitant to do all of this work. What would be nice (and the reason I’m responding) would be if Athletica could run some kind of background re-processing of the last 90-days of Strava rows once this is sorted – so everyone’s PD curves are up-to-date.
I completely understand, but my obsessive-compulsive-analytical side got the better of me……I just went back and amended 7 weeks of workouts…now my charts are starting to make sense!
My 3-month graph, CP, VT1 numbers now better align with my current Training Zone ranges. My six week graph now reflects the tow-week impact of my injury-off week (and the following recovery week) during that 6-week period that occurred just prior to my 42.2k Marathon row…the AI coaching comments don’t like the fact I haven’t completed any intense 3-20 min intervals . I suspected that might be the case before I made thes updates, as the A.I. moved me into my new 2025 training plan post-marathon without a Test Week.
It will be interesting to see if the all of my updates modify my Training Zones or my plan🤔
I was “forced” to row on a C2 at the boathouse yesterday morning because the fog was more than a bit too thick (and the RP3s are chained up for their safety!). So I rowed a 30’ pace ramp. I recorded the session on my Forerunner 955 and on ErgZone. Garmin data imported to Athletica. The Ergzone data are sent to the C2 log. I downloaded .fit files from ErgZone and the log.c2.
Interestingly, each source results in a distinct chart of the “speed” data, which are labeled as mph, but which seem to be from the min/500m series. Given the podcast on efficiency, I though this might be worth a look (I might assume that power is the dominant metric here for efficiency, whereas on-water rowing switches to pace? Of course pace is totally unreliable on water, so wondering, too, how on-water rows are handled…but that’s for another time…).
One might think that the ErgZone and C2 data would be identical…
Also for the devs, seems when I replaced the data file for the original sessions, the chart did not update to reflect the same presentation when I uploaded the files in distinct sessions. I left all three in my 12.06 day if you wish to review.
You are probably correct about platform post-workout processing. I upload my indoor rowing workouts into STRAVA, which is pulled into rowsandall.com, intervals.icu, and was into Athletica. My experience has been the various platforms like to sample data at either 1 or 3 seconds, and will resample the data either automatically, or by permission , to smooth it for their processing.
I use https://www.fitfilerepairtool.info/ to fix an occasional corrupted .fit file or convert a .tcx to a .fit when needed. It is really interesting to see what the exported data looks like from the various platforms. One of the tool’s repair options is to resample the data to 3 seconds🤔
