Max IM Bike of 4 hrs?

As above. I am training for IM Chattanooga and the longest bike (in August) is 4 hours. I’m somewhat surprised as every training plan I’ve done for a full IM alway had a 6 or 7 hour ride.

Is this normal? My max length workout on weekends is 10 hours, so that isn’t the problem.

Hi @jbeech01 … that’s a common question. Remember that Athletica is an adaptive plan. So the 4 hours is the minimum you’ll get. If you keep on track as I can see you’re doing nicely, you’ll get those long rides. Feel free to push out your weekend long ride a tad more than prescribed if you feel good. For example, this weekend no harm in doing 3:15 as opposed to right on 3. Hope that makes sense. In short… you still have a long way to run and lots more changes to occur in your plan depending on what you do or don’t do. If you keep up with the consistency like last week, the rope will be let out.

Exactly what Prof said, that’s the minimum as it’s based on your fitness today…keep training and that 4 hours will increase as you get closer. I often do as Prof recommends and if I feel good, add 10-30 minutes to a ride. Athletica will see your improvement and raise your abilities going forward. Good luck at IMCH!

Hi @jbeech01 ,
Perhaps you can also check that the AI has understood that your goal is an IM. As far as I’m concerned, even though this is clearly indicated as my priority objective (A), the AI has always considered my IM to be a half!

@Fabrice if your time constraints stipulate a certain hour cap, Athletica will try not to violate your request irrespective of the A race goal.

Hi @Prof ,

These are new constraints. I’ve already changed my training load as my IM is already next Saturday. I’ve also had to schedule my taper weeks myself.

my preparation, I told the AI that I could train between 12 and 18 hours a week. I never received from the AI any bike rides longer than 4 hours. Furthermore, in its comments, the AI always referred to a half. But it doesn’t really matter now that the preparation is over.

Okay thanks for clarification @Fabrice … those coming across this thread in the future please ping us if you don’t feel that Athletica is letting out the string enough for your long rides and runs so we can dig deeper to find out why… it should if constraints aren’t placed, if too many B races aren’t scheduled, and if time to race is on your side. Best of luck this weekend @Fabrice
