Migrating from another platform - some beginner questions

I am currently on the two week free trial of athletics.ai having been a regular user of TrainerRoad for a few years now. TR has worked well for me, but I feel like a change of platform would be ‘restorative’! I have a few questions regarding athletica to which I’ve not found answers in perusing the forum and other documents over the last few days.

I am a cyclist with a focus on time trials, in my mid-60s and retired (so relatively few time constraints. I use a first gen Tacx Neo smart trainer and mix this with road cycling. Road riding data are collected via a Garmin Edge 840, virtual riding data via whatever platform I’ve used for the session, and exported as a fit file. I use a Polar Ignite 3 as my wearable, which collects a fair bit of data. I check HRV using HRV4Training each morning.

I’ve been using intervals.ico to collate data from all these sources and to probe the information and monitor how I’m going.

After about a week of looking at the athletica.ai website and now starting to follow the suggested workouts etc, I’m initially rather impressed with how responsive the plan is and the feedback I’m seeing. My questions are:

  1. When doing a training session on the indoor trainer, what’s the recommended approach? For this morning’s strength/endurance session, I imported the session into TrainerRoad and used that with the trainer in erg mode. But that seems a bit roundabout!
  2. Does athletica.ai offer a monitoring of rHR, HRV, sleep and so forth? Does it download these data from Garmin (problematic since I’m using Polar!).
  3. As a follow-up to the previous question, does athletica.ai just use data collected from training sessions as input for future modifications rather than other perceived measures?
  4. Can I store HRV data - from HRV4Training in athletica.ai?

I’m sure more questions will occur to me - I’ll be extending for at least a month’s paid subscription because 2 weeks isn’t enough!

Best wishes,
Robert

Hi @Robert ,
Thanks for checking us out.

  1. Certainly different options that others here can voice, but generally you have the options to download .erg or .zwo files to use on your platform of choice. We also have direct integrations with @biketerra and icTrainer New Athletica connections
  2. Yes - we just released our first version of our recovery profile (rHR, HRV, sleep). New Release: Recovery Profile charts updated with improved HR/HRV analysis Sorry - first version only downloads from Garmin Connect.
  3. Yes - this question is a very big one but you might start with this response by Andrea here: Training plan not reducing load after harder than planned session - #2 by Andrea
  4. Not yet unfortunately. Please ping Marco for me and make the request. We have many others that would like the same. As they say, squeeky wheel gets the oil

Thanks for the reply, Paul,

First off, I subscribed for 6 months after the initial part of my trial week. So far I like what I see. Following up on my four questions:

  1. I am sticking with uploading the erg file to one of the platforms I subscribe to - usually TrainerRoad.
  2. (and 4) - for HRV4Training data, the phone apps offer download of a csv file to a Dropbox folder. Intervals.icu picks up the morning’s HRV data from the file in Dropbox. I understand the date format from the iOS app is slightly different from the Android app (which I use). I’ll drop Marco an email and see if direct integration is a possibility. An alternative would be to pull data from intervals.icu via its API.
  3. I’ll follow this up…

I’m finding the variety of training session types prescribed by athletica.ai to be an improvement over my recent months/years of training, and I’m enjoying (though I’m not sure that’s literally true!) the HIIT sessions. It’s maybe a refreshing thing to have change, and the AI input and commentary is surprisingly engaging.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for subscribing and glad you’re enjoying. That’s interesting thoughts around HRV input streams and you’ve provided some great options we can consider there. We will ponder

Hi Paul,

I did email Marco about the possibility of integrating HRV4Training with athletica.ai, but I suspect I didn’t ask the question properly! His replay was that there isn’t currently a way to connect HRV4Training data to atheltica.ai (which was why I’d emailed him!), and he suggested manually inputting the data.

Personally, I have no problems with manually entering HRV data, and I was wondering whether that would be a possible approach to have available.

Thanks @Robert ,
I’ll add that to our (long) backlog list
