Running Power in Garmin Watch

Hi everyone,

Does anyone here have experience using running power on a Garmin Forerunner watch?

I’m currently using the Forerunner 970 and have disabled the running power feature because I’m worried it might mess with my training data. From what I understand, if power is included in the activity file, many platforms (like Intervals.icu or TrainingPeaks) prioritize it when calculating training load—even over pace or heart rate. While it’s possible to manually adjust that in some apps, I’m not sure how it’s handled in Athletica.

A few questions for those who’ve tried it:
– Have you had good experiences using Garmin’s native running power?
– How does it compare to Stryd in terms of accuracy or usefulness?
– Have you tested it with the latest HRM 600 that was released together with Forerunner 970/570?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!

I’ve used both Garmin running power and Stryd, but prefer Stryd. Intervals will be fine because you can tweak the settings for the order you want training load to be calculated. My default order is power, heart rate, pace since I’m good with the Stryd calculations. However, it’s easy enough to change load calculation to heart rate and then pace if you don’t trust the Garmin power numbers.
