Chiemgau Trail Run

I wanted to share my recent experience with Athletica and how I sought advice on adjusting my training plan during an upcoming vacation.
Experience with Athletica:
At nearly 73 years old, I’ve accomplished various running feats, including marathons, trails, and half marathons. As I described myself on Strava: “M 70. Consistent runner. Been there, ran all - M, trails, HM…”
I’ve been using Athletica for a few weeks, and it’s been incredibly motivating. The weekly video podcasts are also valuable resources.
Upcoming Vacation and Training Adjustment:
I’ll be traveling for a little over a month. During this period, I aim to maintain fitness with light workouts, training 2-3 times per week in hotel gyms (simple strength or cardio sessions) and possibly easy bike rides, depending on availability. I plan to resume serious training on February 10, 2025, for the Chiemgau Trail Half Marathon (https://chiemgau-trail-run.de/), which features significant elevation gain but no cut-off times, making it suitable for older runners.
Paul’s Recommendation:
Paul Laurson suggested going unplanned during the vacation to keep the mental burden low and train as I feel. Upon returning on February 10, I should create a half marathon plan for the race. If the elevation gain makes the half marathon feel more like a full marathon, selecting a marathon plan might be appropriate. He also recommended engaging with the helpful forum community for additional insights.
I’m grateful for Paul’s guidance and the support from the Athletica community. I look forward to continuing my training journey and sharing my progress.
As a fun fact, I recently introduced Athletica to the “Running Over 70 and Beyond” Facebook group. The feedback was enthusiastic, and it’s possible that some members have joined here.
As Amby Burfoot said, “The 70s are a great decade for appreciating everything about running.”
I wanted to post this here and would be delighted to read inputs from older running colleagues and others.
