Beginner questions

Hi, I’m a new user and so far pleased with the results and planning. I’ve encountered a few questions/problem during my trial that I haven’t found answers to.

  1. Is it possible to move ahead all trainings 1 day? Eg. if I want to squeeze in my own session on a particular day but keep the programming as is +1 day. Otherwise I need to drag and drop each and every following session.
  2. Can you change a 50m pool session to 25m? I get a warning (Garmin) if I have it set to 25m and start an Athletica planned session. It doesn’t seem track distance well otherwise.
  3. Can/should I re-do a test whenever? I had some technical issues with the bike MAF test and results were not 100%. The AI did not suggest to re-do it, but is there any point to plan it again or just keep training as planned and the AI will pick up my performance there.
  4. Will there be tests planned further on, for benchmarking?
  5. What does it mean when the duration in a planned session is stricken through? (a line across the numbers).
  6. Threshold update message - if I accept it, there is a small notification, but if I dismiss nothing happens. In both cases the message remains in the unchanged (still with Accept/Dismiss buttons). Does it only update if I accept it?
  7. Does L2 etc. mean the same thing Z2 etc? In the guide/manual there is only mention of Zones, not levels.

Two more small details; when you sync the MAF run test to Garmin, prescribed by AI choice, it chooses pace which is strange for a HR based test. Also in the description for the bike MAF, it mentions “lapping” to get your avg. power from the first part, but when you press lap it jumps to the next section of the session (learned this the hard way!) - can a Garmin expert explain this to me?

Heya, @249popp! Welcome to the platform!

  1. Unfortunately, at present this would be a manual process using the drag/drop feature of the platform

  2. If you go to Settings/Profile, scrolling down a bit you will see where you can change the default pool length to 25m or yd. That should solve the Garmin warnings:

  3. Coaches Paul and Marjaana have suggested in the past that a retest is certainly possible, sometimes desired if you believe, for example, the sessions prescriptions (i.e., pace, HR, power) are not matching RPE or otherwise. To do so, you can grab any of the tests from the library. You otherwise likely will find (per question #6) that the platform will adapt along with you as your performance potential increases

  4. Likely no, unless you generate a new plan or add a race (which otherwise automatically will schedule a test week)

  5. That means there’s been an update to that session from the original. For example, I have a run scheduled tomorrow was updated overnight with new, longer duration/distance targets (though I’m in a taper week and I might just stick to the original!):image

  6. I’ve not experienced this issue, so I cannot comment. @paul-laursen @Marjaana ?

  7. That is how I’ve interpreted such prescriptions, as they mate with the “Z” references in the power/HR/pace tables

Of note, I generally do not auto-sync my workouts to Garmin, as it mucks up the platform with too many workouts. I therefore build the workouts I want to follow with exactness, generally setting either pace or HR as the target, depending on the session. I would think, though, that changing the settings in the Connections/Garmin/Configure section to prescribe by HR will solve that issue for the MAF (though all workouts, then, would follow the same prescription, which might, for example, be suboptimal for cyclists with power meters):

As for gauging average power during the cycling test, I never even attempted to get the data from Garmin during the test, given the distraction. So I obtained them from another platform (intervals.icu). But I would think that Strava, too, would have those data, were you to look at the workout view of the session.

Hope that helps!

SoCal, I was just sitting down to respond! Thank you for the detailed response. I would only add that you can do the power profile test on Velocity any time you feel the numbers aren’t quite right. However, since these tests are really challenging, and Athletica does a good job adjusting when it sees the need, I wouldn’t do the tests very often.

Threshold notifcations: “Accept “threshold change leads to updated training zones. “Dismiss” leads to no change.

Apologies for using both Level and Zones. Essentially the same thing. We will do better in the future

Thank you for thorough explanations!
