So the Running WR is based on HR and the Cycling WR is based on Power, am I right?
All super exciting @Phil … rock star for persistence… can’t wait to try my today
Pace for running @anilakarsu and power for cycling
Working for me now
I’ll test it for runs and rides over the next couple of days. Well done and thanks @Phil!
Thank you so much for this! The work behind the scenes must be immense and we appreciate YOU
I got to try it first time today. Strength endurance run- extended about 30 mins as I am ramping up my runs for marathon in under a month eeek and yeeeeeeeah
Worked smoothly! Love this can’t wait to try it out on a tempo and threshold efforts as well
Persistence is a good attribute for the type of events I do.
Thanks all, it’s been a more challenging beta route for running, mostly as I don’t own a watch. The Garmin test simulator can only tell you so much,
It shows the value of beta, where you’re prepared to accept that things may break, in return you get to try new features as early as possible.
Thought for sure it was going to go this time as the -0- reading was new. But no luck after I got power going alongside. What should I try next @Phil ?
Did you just update or did you uninstall and go through authorising again? -O- means it hasn’t got a profile (for running), nor has the latest version rejected one it got from the Athletica API. Since it waits 10 hours between attempts you could have a long wait. I’d suggest you uninstall , do a clean install that generates the authorisation prompt on phone, then give it a few minutes.
Edited to add, it waits 10 hours after successfully obtaining a profile, in this case your cycling one. Which will have been done by the previous version of the data field.
I think the problem is I’m not getting the authorisation prompt. Can you be clear on how one obtains this? I’m removing field, downloading and syncing latest version, then adding field. But no authorisation prompt is talking to me (yet)…
Eureka! Okay, my error, and apologies if this is obvious for others, is that I was assuming I could install this to my watch via my Garmin 945 cable connected to my computer. Every prior attempt of mine above was using the computer-cable-watch method. But penny dropped for me finally when @Phil mentions
Sure enough, doing this via the phone app, uninstall and reinstall, caused me to get the prompt to authorize Athletica permission. Then it was about 10 min afterwards, potentially timing with when my power meter was picked up by my watch, that the nice little song rang through on my watch. Happy days and loving the UX of that number from a training standpoint…
Now - only last thing I’m unsure of is the S<=>L bar. What’s the secret to getting that on my screen @Phil ?
Now this bit can be done via Garmin Express on your computer or the Connect IQ app on your phone. In Garmin Connect IQ on phone you’ll see the green dot against device bottom right. Tap my device, choose FR945, then tap data fields, then Workout Reserve. You’ll see the settings button as per @anilakarsu screen clip. Tap settings and then change the display setting from basic to advanced.
Congratulations, welcome to the party
Yes, authorisation happens through the Connect IQ app on a phone (or a tablet would work) paired with the device
Ensuring you have your paired phone nearby with both Connect and Connect IQ installed is mentioned in description in the anpp store, and shown in video. If you think the instructions can be improved in some way let me know. Unfortunately Garmin doesn’t let you use formatting to highlight certain bits, to add emphasis.
You don’t need to install via the phone, you can do that via cable. That is what I was doing before I submitted it for Garmin approval. But you do need the Connect Apps on a paired phone to get the prompt and profile updates.
I’ll put something top of the FAQ.
Version 1.4.0 out, nothing major, it now shows you the date of the Workout Reserve profiles on your Watch or Edge device. To see the profile date, go into the data field settings. Note the settings profile date will show -0- , until this version has downloaded a fresh WR profile. This version may reset your chosen data field settings to defaults and thus if you want advanced display you may need to go back in and change it.
@Phil I had my first run today with the WR field active. Very nice experience, got the Close Encounters tones and was ready to go in mere seconds.
I tried using the watch for an indoor bike yesterday but was also using my Edge bike computer and I wasn’t able to get the WR to work on the watch (worked fine on the Edge) and it read 99.9% the whole time. I’ll give it another try without the other connections running (I was also testing biketerra)
Assuming the watch was in a bike profile then it’s certain it just wasn’t getting the power data as the Edge had the connection. Clearly indoor running would not work as you’d have zero pace as far as movement is concerned. Your watch and Edge run exactly the same calculations if both in a bike profile.
Edited to add if the power meter source transmits simultaneously on both Bluetooth and Ant+ then you could set the Edge to receive on Ant+ and watch on Bluetooth.
@Phil I had another go on the bike today and did not turn on my Edge, just ran an indoor bike off the watch, but it still got stuck on 99.9%. I’ll try uninstalling and reinstalling again to see if that makes any difference and report back.
Can you add power to the same screen and take a photo of it during pedalling. You’re definitely looking at it on a cycling profile and not a running profile?
Having real issues installing this field. No way to add progress updates of calls to and from Garmin in set up? Have added data field multiple times but no success in getting a profile downloaded. On that is a GPS connection required as wasn’t sure about this from the instructions? Have tried both in and just as a setting to add the data field but had no success (Fenix 6X).
Did you add via the Connect IQ app on your phone, and did you add it to a running or cycling profile data screen? Have you had the authorisation dialogue?
