Garmin ConnectIQ Workout Reserve data field

Dear @Jerome, thank you for your request! Updating the compatible device list is something we rely on the genius of @Phil to handle. I’m hopeful it will be updated soon, especially since the Edge 1050 looks like an excellent addition! :face_holding_back_tears:

It’ll become compatible with Edge 1050 with the next release. I need to complete some testing but expect I’ll release a compatible version within next fortnight or so.

Neither the documentation on ConnectIQ nor the youtube video explain whether or how this is sports specific for rowing, running, cycling. Does the IQ field know the appropriate power profile automatically from the Garmin app it’s added to, or does it have to be configured/synched individually for all different sports types and power profiles?

Dear @danros, thank you for your interest in the Workout Reserve.
It is currently available for cycling (with power) and running (with speed). It works best if you sync your profile before going out for a session. We are not releasing a version for the other modalities such as swim, but maybe in the next future we’ll be adding rowing to the list.

When you select the activity, the app automatically refers to your corresponding profile: cycling-> cycling, and running->running.

Sorry for the incomplete/suboptimal documentation. Please, keep the comments coming, I’m quite interested in your experience with the app.

Thanks again for your trust.

I’ve updated the description to indicate it is for cycling and running activities only.

It probably seems like an age, but the data field has now been updated, tested, and is compatible with the Edge 1050.

Hi, is it possible to make it available / compatible with “fenix 6”? it seems it’s compatible for like “fenix 6S” and “fenix 6 pro” and “fenix 5 plus” and such, but not the base “fenix 6” model…wondering if there’s a technical reason for it or if you just forgot to enable it. thanks

Technical reason I’m afraid. It simply does not have enough memory to run the data field. I did test the Fenix 6 for latest release but it would just crash due to running out of memory. I won’t rule it out in the future, if a newer Garmin IQ SDK is able to reduce the memory footprint sufficiently.

Edited to add. Before you say it has 64MB of memory surely that’s enough. Garmin restricts the resources available to data fields, in the case of Fenix 6 it’s 32kB.

After installing the CIQ data field and getting the authorisation prompt, I get an error: “Not Found. The requested URL was not found on this server”. Is the oauth-link broken?

Garmin made a change to the Connect IQ app on Android which broke it. It works just fine on Connect IQ on iOS. It used to work just fine on both.

I’ve reported the bug to Garmin. But they don’t give out dates on when they will fix things. I’ll be looking at this over the next week to see if I can find a workaround for Android, without breaking iOS in the process.

If you are happy editing the url in the browser address bar , I can tell you what needs changing to get the authorisation step to work. Not at PC at moment to dig that info out, but should be able to in a couple of hours or so.

Dear @Harlerunner thank you so much for your post and for giving to Athletica WR a try!

Can you please let us know whether you are using Android or iOS please?

A while ago a trick was needed to make the oauth-link work on androids. Not sure it’s still the case.

Can you please have a look at this?

I understand it’s something bothering Android users. Hopefully we’ll get to fix this as soon as we have the chance.

Thank you @Phil and @Andrea: changing the & to a ? did the trick. Well… almost. The watch now shows the CIQ-error icon on the data page.

Nothing showed up in Garmin remote error reporting earlier, when I was on PC. Make sure you have latest version of app installed. Remove then add it back to a data page. When the auth prompt comes up, change the first & to ? and let see how that goes. It may have crashed due to the inordinately long time from request to response (at your device), but unless I get an error report in the Garmin remote viewer I can only guess rather than know!

Yes, this trick worked for me on Android and a Samsung S23.

I’ve made an update, so you can indicate in settings whether your paired phone is

  • Apple iOS
  • Google Android

The data field will then adjust the authorisation request for Android phones. There is currently a bug in the Android version of the Connect IQ app. This change will get around that bug, and hopefully mean the authorisation process will once more work without intervention on Android phones.

I haven’t made any changes beyond authorisation for Android at this stage.

Unfortunately when I add additional settings, Garmin resets the existing data field settings to their defaults, if you update through Garmin Connect Mobile. If you update via Garmin Express, settings are retained. There’s no way around this. Just go into setting once updated and set as per your preferences.

The update is available for all the 105 compatible Garmin devices.
