Programming for a swimming event

Hi everyone,

I signed up athletica ai for the goal of doing an Ironman 70.3 at the end of the year. However it’s sadly been sold out and I want to re-direct my training towards the Rottnest channel swim (19.7km).

But to adjust my program I see swimming isn’t an option? Could this be a goal for the future? Or is there a way to get around it? Thank you

Hi @Cronje… sorry to hear about the sell out but certainly that’s a nice market signal for all that love the sport.
In fact, @Swimfast documented doing this at one point with success. You should be able to go into your settings, form a triathlon plan (long distance for Rottnest), and then block off the running and/or cycling days, but ask for swimming days on as many days as you like. Settings=>training. Remember to give the AI engine a few hours to compute.

Hi, thank you for the reply!

I have selected long-distance triathlon as the race type as there is no swimming option and in the “Anything to add section” mentioned its a 19.7km swim. I also blocked out the other training modes, just leaving swimming and strength available.

However, the swim programs seems to only go up to few km. As this will be quite a long swim I’m training for, I’d need it to be longer sessions and more specified? Is there a way to do this?

I also, would like to keep training for a half-marathon and some triathlons in-between so blocking out the running and biking options isn’t ideal. Any other suggestions to get around this? thank you!

Hi @Cronje,

You were on the right track. I made some small tweaks to your plan in settings based on the context you describe. Note how I declared that you wanted swimming scheduled by changing the colour of the swimming icon.

This produced the following - a swim focussed plan that still lets you tick over in the other disciplines. As always, keep tweaking and refining according to your context.
