Questions about swimming workout!

I have two questions regarding the swimming part of my plan for a full Ironman:

  1. My training plan look as the following screen, I do have a coached session on Fridays focussed on technique. Would you recommend to delete one of the existing session and upload a unplanned session on Friday? Or there is a better approach?

  2. During my SWIM TIME TRIAL, my all out 50m was 1:25/100m and 400m was 2:11/100m but when looking at the plan L1 pace should be 5:17/100m - 7:45/100m which seems off (?). I did upload my swimming Critical pace (seconds) to 1:53/100m in my settings but it didn’t seems to make any difference, any suggestion?

Hey @Fabien ,

  1. Totally your call. You have two options here. You could do an extra swim on Friday with your coach which would make it 4 swims in your week. This is fantastic if swimming is your work-on and you have the time. However if time is a factor, you could move Monday’s aerobic swim to Friday as I’m imagining the load might be similar. Either way, Athletica will calculate the load and make fine adjustments accordingly.
  2. Perhaps a lag time in adjusting these but your 1:53 pace looks aligned with your zones to me. Is this not the case in your mind?

Thanks @Prof for your answer, it’s really helpful!

  1. I’ll try to keep the 4 swim as I have 39 weeks ahead of my full Ironman so I can readjust and do as you were saying, moving the Monday session to Friday! As a user I’m wondering how things would play out when completely ignoring the plan proposed, last Friday I deleted the Friday session proposed and just upload the unplanned work out that I did.

  2. All sorted! I supposed that it may have take some time to update than expected

Hey! Just chiming in here quickly. Save your favourite swim workouts into your library, and then pull them in from library every week - then it shows up as “planned” and not “unplanned” - I know small details matter :joy:
You can easily adjust the workout as you get fitter.
You’ll notice as you keep chugging along that the workouts change slightly based on what gets done, or not. So if you take a look at your plan 3 months forward from today, in the future; that week will look actually different in 3 months, based on what you have done. Does that make sense? The week three months down the road will change based on your training. It may not look like what you expect to get your ready for the Ironman Today, but as you get started and train, the plan will see, hey, Fabien is doing great, he can handle this, great, let’s give him a little more load🔥
I think it is important that you keep the race day demands clear in your mind, and reflect on what demand is placed on you on the race day. Is it hilly? Make sure to prioritize those strength endurance and strength training. Is it flat and fast? Then make sure you can run off the bike fast. Is it lake swim or ocean swim? Make sure you are ready for chop and waves if in the ocean.
Athletica is a great plan - you need to make small tweak based on your race day and training facilities :mountain_snow: :desert:

Let me know if you have more questions or comments on what I just said… also, we have a podcast you may find helpful.

Ahah, I love those little big details!

I’m part of some running, cycling social club plus 1h master swimming a week, so I was wondering how much it would impact the planning. Good to see that it’s really meant to work smoothly, although I’ll make sure that it’s quite align with the session proposed which may require some moving around!

It’s interesting that you mention the different condition, it would be interesting if it was possible to provide that information to the algorithm and how it impact it.

I really like the podcast and will carry going through the previous episode!
