Add RPE as metric along with pace in workouts

Hi Team,
I think it would be really cool if we could add RPE as guide during workouts (instead of prescribing pace for intervals). I do some of my runs on hilly terrain as I am preparing for trail ultras and in these cases RPE seems to make more sense. Also sometimes I like to prescribe intervals by RPE. Also I love this for calibrating athletes’ subjective feelings with HR & pace.

Love this idea @NicoleLB85 .
I think adding RPE is prescription would be helpful for several reasons, one guiding anyone who is not using smart watch/GPS but wants to follow a plan. Second, to teach anyone how “feel” relates to pace and/HR - super helpful.

It is probably in the dev list already @Prof ?

Thats a good idea and especially for hill intervals. Hill intervals are tough one to prescribe and many plans will say things like "go up a X% grade hill around your 5K pace. This is near impossible for most even if they know their 5K pace since it’s almost impossible to attain going almost all out up a hill. You CAN make the slight change in approach by saying go at your 5K “EFFORT” which for many is like a 7-10 out of 10 (depending on stage of race and 5K goal). Heart rate is also tough to prescribe for hill repeats since there is a delay until you hit that kind of zone and then the elevation will have you quickly surging past the zone for many, so it’s tough to maintain.

IMHO the absolute best metric for hill repeats is running power, but it’s a shame it isn’t as universally used (yet anyway!) In this scenario you would look at your power duration curve around the time you’d likely finish a 5K in your current fitness and note the running power number. You then run the hill interval at that power number (exact 5k intensity) which is measured and displayed instantaneously and takes into account elevations, wind, and in some pods temperature/humidity.

Power is in the pipeline as we know.

@NicoleLB85 @Marjaana we need to be careful with real estate in the app… we have this in an Andrea blog fyi. There are also other descriptors in your zone classifications on the Web app.

Yes, I just think it would be super helpful to have this during the workout (instead of having only pace, which makes little sense in many trail / ultra-running situations) or HR (which can also be problematic).
