I’m writing this feeling a bit of a wimp and perhaps underestimating what I am capable of. Last weeks sessions were hard, and I probably made them harder as I did a 4x7 HiiT session followed by a 5x15 strength and then a 9x6 threshold on consecutive days before rides at the weekend.
I needed a rest and the AI warned I was fatigued which I could feel in my legs. I took the decision to rest Monday but am looking with some trepidation at todays session which a big jump to 7x7 ‘short’ HiiT session of an hour and a half, this doesn’t look like a graduated increase in load. This is a very tough work out and I’m up for pushing it but it would be good for a human to reassure me that the AI is working correctly in this case.
My HRV and other metrics are showing that I’m coping with the load. Despite doing them fatigued I’m feeling very strong on club rides at the moment.
Always trust your gut feeling. Your intuition knows when to take it easy before any metrics like HRV picks it up.
AI will never be able to compete with your own intuition.
Sounds like you know what to do… but maybe ease up next hiit session and just hit the target with couple of those 30/30s if still feeling it in the legs or zone 2 session.
I would need more context to give specific advice what to do next but let your body recover a little bit🥰 sounds like you are building up to a strong season.
I hope you are well. I miss doing the workouts with you guys but sadly didn’t get enough from Velocity to warrant the extra subscription due to my current work state.
I did feedback on the session I missed yesterday saying I was fatigued and now it’s changed my session to 7x9 and load of 200! the jump from 4x7 to 7x9 is surely incorrect? That’s well over double the load in one week, and a HiiT session of nearly two hours, anyway I thought I’d bring it to your attention.
You know I love the platform and the people but I feel it’s maybe got to do a bit better in this competitive space.
I’m sorry I’ve just re-read my post and it comes across a bit harsher than I intended.
Please let me know if there’s a enough for a team in the next window. I never did find anyone else to race with but it has allowed me to concentrate on my planned sessions.
Thanks for the feedback @Horsham7. Agree and I’ve updated the template in the backend to cap at 6 reps as agree that 7 is too rich for mid volume. Indeed, AI is recognizing your abilities and pushing you but its at this point oblivious to your age (reduced recovery ability) and you need to modify accordingly which I see you’re doing well.
Best,
Paul
Thanks @Prof,
What is interesting is that am I now wondering if I’m limiting myself due to preconceptions about my age - my HRV and other metrics are good - should I trust the algorithms more? I understand how powerful our brain is in how we perform. I’ve experienced over training before and I tend to start getting irritable with my family and I feel I’m just on the right side of it. This is new ground for me and I’m excited to see how far I can go.
Rob
… yep - how long is a piece of string. Only you know the answer to your limits @Horsham7 but remember that more training load does not equal more performance capacity. There’s a relationship but without recovery and adaptation we don’t get better. So don’t doubt yourself when taking rest. Its hard but just ask @Marjaana how much it can help…
my new slogan is “Rest is training too”…
Rob I’ve been where you’ve been so many times before. I also know how strong you are. Just trust that internal common sense that you have, and know that recovery often translate into your ability to express the tremendous fitness you have.
@prof So I’ve been listening to my body and trying to inform the AI with my comments but its gone a bit crazy and seems fixated on getting me to load progression and just continuing to add missed load on subsequent days - my Friday session is now a 3h threshold session up from 45mins. I can not hold threshold for 96 minutes and if I could I’d be broken.
What do I need to do or say to the AI to curb it’s enthusiasm? I fully understand that if i don’t do as prescribed then I won’t hit predicted fitness but based on the difficulty of the sessions now I can only think this is kind of unrealistic for me anyway.
Does it consider that as your power and fitness is increasing that the work you output during these intervals should be greater without continuing to add extra intervals?
I was thinking can I use the beta training set up and restrict hours or time during the week to 1 1/2h or similar to manage the AI?
Hi @Horsham7 … the language model isn’t yet looping back into the backend to make change in your program fyi so you still need to be in the driver’s seat and manually make your own intelligent changes. You can certainly try limiting hours if you’d like, however I would simply move the threshold session (its trying to give you the L4 stimulus but its intercepted by the load its trying to push on you and creating a less than ideal situation).
Okay, I’ve tried with the constraints and they don’t seem to make any difference. I wasn’t even able to just ask for a rest day on Monday every week.
I’ve been through a few weeks in advance and set things up in a more reasonable way for me. Resting Mondays, and alternating stressful intensive interval days with low intensity volume days.
