Device/Service-Agnostic Fitness Data Import/Syncing and Deduplication
This is a suggestion that I think should be addressed to meet table stakes for a data driven service for athletes. Athletica should be able to connect with all the major sources of fitness data, bring it in, and match multiple recordings of the same workout to prevent duplication and not preference one source unless explicitly told to.
Athletica should meet athletes where they are and not try to force them into one device manufacturer’s ecosystem, which it seems to want to do with Garmin. Like many athletes, I use the devices that currently works best for me for my activities. Right now, that is a Garmin Watch for health tracking and recording workouts other than cycling and a Hammerhead Karoo as a cycling head unit. Device manufacturers like Garmin aren’t guaranteed to always be the most popular in the industry forever and have a history of falling in and out of favor. Coros is pretty popular in the running community as well, as an example. Therefore, Athletica should focus on being device-agnostic.
In addition to different devices, I, like many others, use Strava as a free repository of many many years of workout data because it is device-agnostic and I’ll always be able to find a record of a workout in there when needed. (At least until they make that a paid service, maybe). Athletica should be able to take in all my Strava data, including duplicates, and use that to help with the complete picture of my workout history.
FYI, TrainerRoad (probably the biggest competitor on the market that I’m sure Athletica would want to gain subscribers from) handles this flawlessly these days. All you have to do is connect your accounts (Strava, Garmin, Hammerhead, etc) and it will import everything and match it up within a few minutes. No deleting duplicates and no manually adding the correct workout recording that has the most data recorded.
Really hope you will prioritize this because this is one of those things that most people will just churn from your trial without telling you why.
