Hello, how does Athletica handle activities recorded on multiple devices? I almost always record my rides on both my Garmin watch and my Hammerhead computer or Rouvy app and these both sync to Strava as well for backup. I like to have everything in Garmin Connect for various reasons. With TrainerRoad, there is automatic data de-duplication so that it combines all the data recorded and uses it instead of counting it as two workouts. Trainerroad was also to take my combined activities from all the various sources to get an accurate history of my rides since I’ve used various devices to record in the past.
Does Athletica do something similar?

Athletica prioritizes activities from Garmin connect.

Personal recommendation: I ended up (still do sometimes) with dupes so had to turn off connections with other sources than my choice source, e.g. will have one from Garmin one from Strava and one from Zwift or Velocity, same time/distance/duration and it doesn’t seem to recognize overlapping duplicates. So unless you’ll be tracking occasional workouts in other sources, I recommend picking your main source of truth and only link that.

Got it. So I just need to be thoughtful about making sure I ALWAYS remember to record with my Garmin watch and I’ll have that synced to Athletica. I still wonder how Athletica handles duplicates in historical data because that is recorded in multiple places. I’d like to start Athletica with it knowing about where I’m currently at… That is one of the nice features of TrainerRoad because it takes in all your historical data.
It’s a good point; I had Athletica pull everything in from Strava originally since I use SO many different systems and trackers. Slopes for skiing, apple watch for paddleboarding and roller skating and other non-traditional activities, Zwift and Velocity for indoor riding, and Garmin for everything triathlon related from road biking to mountain biking to OW and pool swimming to road and trail running…it seemed that Strava would be a good data origin.
Now that I’m using Intervals.icu that also could have been a source of truth, but I wasn’t using it prior. Maybe Training Peaks if you use that?
If you want to use a central tool, maybe rungap would work to get everything into one place? I use that app to sync to/from Apple watch and the other systems and it gets everything to Intervals and Athletica pretty cleanly.
Sorry, I’m long winded! The long and short of it: Athletica will have a pretty solid understanding of your base from whatever source, but it does still take a couple weeks for it to sync up and really plan around YOUR fitness so give it some grace. If a workout looks way too hard or way too easy, go with your gut for the first few weeks and go longer or shorter, and after a few weeks the AI will be much more spot on for what you need. Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks for the tips! They should put this type of stuff in their FAQ if it’s not because I feel like it’s not uncommon for people to come to the app without ONE source of truth…

Fair point indeed, and it’s a tricky topic. I hope not everyone is using a dozen sources like me, but maybe it’s more common than I thought
@Marjaana how about an FAQ addition or two, and maybe this could be a good topic for the podcast as well? New user setup and AI training pitfalls, tricks, and expectations…or something of the sort.
