First IM 10Hours ! Training recap

Hi guys, this is my training recap to prepare for IM Italy in 5 months. An average of 18 hours of training followed the ATHLETICA Long Distance plan. For swimming, I didn’t follow ATHLETICA because I thought the volumes were too high, while I preferred to increase the hours of training on the bike and especially on the run because, as I’ve seen, they really make up 90% of the race. Therefore, I limited the intense sessions and did many long aerobic swimming sessions with pull paddles and then, from June, only open water with 3x 800/1km repeats with small paddles. BIKE: I added another 2 hours in Z2 to VO2 30/30 or Low cadence training so as to have a solid 3/4 hour session midweek. RUNNING: I mainly followed ATHLETICA. Over the weekend I did a long Open Water 3x1000 on Friday. I kept the BRICKS as per ATHLETICA on Saturday and then a Long Run on Sunday. STRENGTH: I didn’t follow Plyo but I created 2 workouts: 1 Total Body Endurance 15/20 reps and one Maximum Strength 5x5 reps + Mobility. Nutrition: I tried to stay in a light surplus and eat mainly legumes, yogurt, eggs, chicken, whole grains and lots of fruit and vegetables. As supplements, I take OMEGA 3 in the evening, MAGNESIUM 300mg in the evening, GLYCINE and Glutamine in the evening, Vitamin D in the morning and CREATINE after the workout. That’s it!.. as you can see from the pictures… the Performance Potentials are exact and I stuck to the Pace set by ATHLETICA

Again congratulations to you @Giuseppe85, your long distance triathlon is impressive and i’ve seen you during the run where you were very consistent!!

That said i do myself some questions: you should do a lot of adaptations to your athletica plan and not everybody could have the same skills. So one of my hopes is that our athletica program at least could accept a little bit more time constraints than now and that we can fix number of sessions for each sport and minumum time for that sport (as i said in other topic i wouldn’t go to the pool for 30 minutes of session). Let’s hope!!

Yes, exactly, you’re right! In my opinion, it would be good to make the percentage DISTRIBUTION MODE work for each sport because in my case, swimming was really a lot and I needed less while I would have extended some Run Sessions but anyway I really found it good and in my opinion, just use Workout Wizard to find what you need without making mistakes

Congratulations on your amazing first Ironman race! to clock 10 hrs is amazing! Well done, and thank you for sharing your training strategy as well!
For both of you @Prato and @Giuseppe85 - we hear you, and we want to improve the daily availability and sport distribution in the future.

Thanks for being part of our community!

Yesss!!:flexed_biceps:For now, the only way to increase cycling and running load and reduce swimming is to work on the fitness and fatigue level of each discipline (by reducing swimming, the sessions will be shorter to ensure a progressive load)
