Gran Fondo and Half Marathon Training

Hi there. After my priority tri races will be completed in the end of June, I will shift my training focus to build up to a classic cycle event in September, and a Half Marathon in the end of October.
What is a sound approach to this? Without having digged into a duathlon plan, I assume this would not be the best option - the two events are spread apart, and are really not comparable to a duathlon in my opinion, execpt the disciplines.
I will do both running and cycling, and still do the odd swim workout if I feel like it.
Maybe a Half Ironman Plan, and skip most of the swims? The bike portion would be somewhat compareable to the Gran Fondo, at least distance wise.
Honestly, I’m also considering using TrainerRoad for the bike workouts.

Any ideas/insights would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @Andy,
Sounds like fun. If it were me, here’s what I would do.
Due to the spacing you mention, I would:

  1. finish your triathlon racing plan until end of June
  2. After June, switch to a single day cycling event for Sept Gran Fondo - that’s what that plan is built to optimize. Use Daily constraints to program in the run and swims in accordance with your preference - declare your days of running/swimming - more running than swimming likely because of your Half Marathon that will follow.
  3. Post Fondo, make your final push the half marathon plan (supplement cycling and swimming as recovery and aerobic development sessions to balance the neuromuscular load).
    Hope that might help.

Prof, thanks! That sounds like a good approach, I’ll give it a shot. Cheers
