Help with RPE vs Feel

I’m fairly confused between RPE and “How Did You Feel?”

For example, I just did a run through a state park next door that was 1 hour and 17 minutes long. It had quite a few hills and so the run was fairly challenging. However I felt very strong and overall enjoyed it very much.

The day before however, I did the same course for a 1 hour 50 minute run but because I didn’t eat much that morning, it was super difficult and I had to walk a lot.

How exactly is RPE different from How Did You Feel? Both days were the same course and so it was equally as difficult but on one I felt bad and one I felt good. Should both have the same RPE and one have a better How Do You Feel? Is the RPE rating the difficulty of the assigned run or how I felt achieving the assigned run?

I’m just not sure how to accurately give an impression of how hard things were versus how I felt. Both were hard but on one, I crushed it and the other crushed me. Thanks!

Hi @jbeech01,
Thank you for voicing.
I would find it hard to come up with a better explanation of the difference between RPE and feel than the one you just described. Put simply, a session can be rated as hard but you feel good, and a session can be rated as hard but you feel terrible. So exactly as you described. You’re interpreting perfectly.
Here is a nice thread on this topic also to review here.
Best,
Paul
