Curious about MAF HR. I started a new plan with a test week today. Did the MAF test on the trainer, and afterwards Athletica suggested a new bike threshold power. That seems reasonable since this was the first harder effort I had done in several weeks. My target HR for the MAF test was 146 (I’m 34 years old, 180 - 34 = 146). I thought that MAF is the transition between Zones 2 and 3, is that right? If so, would it be reasonable to expect that my HR zones should align such that 146 HR falls near that zone transition? Maybe that will update later in the week when I do the prescribed FTP test?
Hey,
Yes, MAF intensity should fall in between L2/3. The team is working on updating the whole system, and there may be some kinks to iron out. Once you do the FTP (if you haven’t already) it should pickup your Ciritical HR and power and update. You’ll get a notification pop up. Please think about the numbers and ask yourself: does this make sense before you accept.
Please update me here after.
HR didn’t update after an FTP test. Granted I hit a few traffic lights during the 20-minute portion of the test, so it wasn’t a non-stop 20 minutes, but still a solid effort.
Same thing happened for my run MAF test. HR zones seem low but didn’t update after the test, though maybe they’re right? Or maybe there’s a bug in the new beta critical HR detection that isn’t picking up updates, though I’m sure that isn’t the case if others have seen HR updates.
System doesn’t detect MAF HR at the moment. It’s more for you to keep track of. But once you do a 20min hard effort the system will detect HR and power threshold changes and will notify you. Are you in the beta testing group ?
Yes, I am. I have the 5k TT in the morning, haven’t done that one yet. So maybe the run values might still update. It’s altogether possible that the HR zones are right, I’m just getting back into training over the last few weeks after a period of a complete lack of any consistency. But I was a little surprised when I’ve been doing test workouts this week and seen no HR zone updates when I have gotten pace/power updates. Maybe just because HR zones don’t shift that much over time with changes in fitness?
