Marathon/Long Distance Event Training: Physiology behind Weekly Training Load vs. Longer Distance Workouts

@Prof , listening to a recent “Compass” podcast, it was mentioned that the body’s physiological response to training supported focusing on overall weekly training load versus the traditional use of individual long-distance training workouts to best approach for adaption for long-distance events.

I like it! Curious….can you elaborate on the physiology?

Repeated signalling of the muscles (and heart/lungs) whilst keeping your nervous system in balance is the simple answer. One of the reasons why the Athletica methods are successful.
