Riding together on Zwift

Hello Team Athletica!

I’m exploring Zwift group rides and would like to invite you to join me for some rides! I’m planning on doing my Long ride tomorrow, Friday 5th of January 10am Central US time, and you are welcome to join me!

Here are the details:
Go to your Zwift Companion App, go to Events and find the 10am "Long Steady Distance: Big Foot Hills 69.9KM ride.
I am planning to throw in some efforts in there as described; el, and that is what this session is all about.

  • WU 40mins
  • 4 x over-unders as 4 x 5′
    (10′ recovery between sets)
    • 1′ Hard
    • 4′ IM intensity
  • CD 40′
We are “rubberbanded” meaning that Zwift will keep us together, but I am not sure how this works if some riders are doing efforts and others not.
    Late joiners also welcome.
Chat & Google meet video call optional - I can send you the link tomorrow prior the ride.

Hope you’ll join me!
Marjaana

Also, please join my newly founded club “TiredMomRuns” on Zwift for regular group rides

@Marjaana How did your Zwift group ride turnout?

Hey! :wave:t2: it was a great ride, ended up riding almost 4 hours, but no one joined me this time… it was a tough time on a Friday morning. I’ll try again another time!

I was trying to figure out how to set up the group ride so everyone follows the same program, I know it’s possible. Do you know how?
If I start in the event, I don’t have access to the “zwift workouts” where my custom athletica workouts live. If I start with the athletica workout, then I won’t be transferred to the event. I guess I could ask zwift how to set it up for the next time.

I’ll organize more for sure

I know I’ve done a custom workout while joining teammates in a group ride. I think you need to start the group ride first, then while in the waiting area go to the menu and select the workout.

Hey Ashley! Thanks for this. I tried but I did not have access to the workouts as it was all gray-ed out.

Well now I’m going to have to try this. Will ping you in the FB group if I figure it out.

I think I’ve got it figured out now. I needed to create a meetup, not an event.
If you’d like to join a group ride, you need to follow me first and then I can send you an invite.

Follow me on Zwift and let me know if you want to join any rides and I will send you an invite.

This is me:

I will throw in an invite for Wednesdays Vo2max sprints (Feb 10 at 8:30am Central time). No late joiners allowed - it’s not me, it zwift ! :hugs:

The way the meetups work is that we can be rubber banded together so no one gets dropped… unless you stop pedaling. The chat function is only for our group. We can also add a google meet link if we want to chat and listen to our heavy breathing :face_exhaling: :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: while doing the efforts.

So if you want to join me, make sure to follow me on zwift and drop a line here that you’ve followed me, what your username is on zwift and I will send you an invite.

Once we are waiting to start, we pick the workout. You can join even if you have 4 sets of 5x 30/30s as (and others 2 sets). Or do the 2 sets together, leave the meetup and keep crushing your workout alone… up to you.

We will see how this goes. I’m just excited to meet ya’ll and spend some time together!

Good Morning!
when you create the group event, check the box “keep everyone together”. Other riders will have up to 30 min to join, and will automatically be lumped into a pack, provided they continue to pedal (regardless of differences in Power output).
Anyone that wants to do a Workout while in the group, just click to the Menu WHILE CONTINUING TO PEDAL and then select the workout they want to do. Everyone can do their own, and still stay with the group. No one gets dropped while you do your VO2 sections and they are in a recovery block.
For your Athletica workouts, you have to export from Athletica, and drop them into your Zwift workouts folder on your PC. After that, they are found in the “Custom” workout section in Zwift. I found a handy video on YouTube that was very easy and clear.

Hey @mpderksen Thanks for this! I figured that if I create a Meetup instead of Event, we can all pick our workout. I’m doing VO2max session (2x5 30/30s) this Wednesday at 8:30am Central US time, if you want to join! Please follow me on Zwift and I will invite you. We will be rubberbanded so we will be kept together.

Here’s how to Import zwift file: https://youtu.be/pzSNkRdxNDg?si=TrlhYhdPCg0iqerY

Indeed! that is the video I was referring to, and didn’t even realize YOU were the one who made it! well done!
I don’t know the difference between Events and Meetups, frankly, so I apologize if my post was unhelpful.
that time would typically work well, (6:30am pacific), but currently on a T/Th riding schedule, with a S/R on Wednesdays. As things move around I will certainly join when I can, and thank you for the invite.

Absolutely, no problem at all! I had to go into the weeds to figure that one out also. thank you for your help! Make sure to follow me on zwift and I will invite you! I’m really looking forward to these sessions, as it gets a bit monotonous to bike on zwift alone… :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Hey Cindy:

WU 11′ steady

  • 2 x 5 x 1′ of 30/30s
    (2′ recovery between sets )
  • 30″ on (quality focus)
  • 30″ off (just turning over legs)
  • CD 8′ steady
Only 33 mins, so let’s increase cool down Zone 2 until 45 mins?
