To Row Zone 1 & 2 Power or Heart Rate…That is the Unanswered Question to My A.I. Coach

My Training zones were updated upward three weeks ago following my latest Test Week. Since that time, I immediately noticed that I have been unable to complete my longer aerobic workouts at my prescribed Zone 2 Power targets while maintaining my heart rate at/below my Zone 2 HR upper limit.

As such, I have been completing these ‘Steady’ intervals at ~10-15W below my A.I.-prescribed Zone 2 targets in order to maintain my heart rate with my HR Zone 2. I have also made note of this issue in my workout comments, explaining why I’m doing this and suggested to my A.I. coach that my training zones may need to be reevaluated. The A.I. coach has acknowledged my observation and agreed with it. The A.I. has made no adjustments to my training zones to date.

I completed my 100-min aerobic workout today as I have for the last 3 weeks rowing below my prescribed Zone 2 Power target, successfully only briefly exceeding my Zone 2 HR during the last 3-minutes of the last Steady interval. The attached A.I. feedback I received has me confused…are we to follow Dr. Seiler’s guidance and other guidance I’ve seen on this forum to adjust for cardiac drift during our aerobic sessions or not? Shouldn’t the A.I coach be on the same page, recognizing the disconnect between my HR and Power targets, and thus adjust my training zones appropriately?

Currently, I am manually titrating down my training Zone 1 & 2 Power targets based on my HR observations, and my Zone 4 Power targets based on my ability and RPE, waiting for the A.I. to catch up……

Hello. I had this problem as well earlier in my training using athletica.ai. The solution was to give it more data and allow it recalibrate the zones. Now I can do a 1 hour 40 minute steady state (aerobic development) at power zone 2 and not exceed my prescribed heart rate zone 2. Perhaps @Prof can provide more insight such as how long does it take Athletica to recalibrate the zones?
