Garmin ConnectIQ Workout Reserve data field

Fantastic! Let me know it’s ready for me to test it out . You rock!

That’s outstanding @Phil,

I’ve tweaked the wording at that place in accordance with your suggestions. Nice pick up.

Now THIS is gold (IMO):

I don’t know of any other existing tool in the world that can provide this type of live real world guidance or coaching. Of course I’m happy to be shown otherwise, but other than really doing the hard yards of knowing your power/pace values of the past (who remembers those that well?) this tool might truly be revolutionary. I don’t know. Bold statement and only time will tell. But its cool how I had no clue about your story when I wrote that. I simply knew the theory and the tool that @Andrea and you built. Kinda cool when your story about going out of the gates too hard was correct. Will be interesting to see if this story gets repeated as only then can we confirm its a game-changing tool… but looking good ATM team. :muscle:

Then of course we have beasts like the FR965. I’m sure @MarkB will set his up like this when it is ready for running.

Cannot wait to test this on my Epix Pro. I wish Garmin allowed adding data fields on the workout page. This would be a core piece of it.

Having paid attention to the blog, here’s my threshold session today. At 15 mins I did a primer then recover to get ready for the core intervals. I think I paced it well heading towards a mWR of 5.9% right at the end of the session.

I have here a photo showing where the live WR duration marker ended up towards the end of the session. It’s towards the long duration.

I am very curious to contrast this against the Garmin Stamina metric. Athletica’s WR feels like it is more relevant to the individual athletes’ historic performances; not sure where/how Garmin pulls theirs from. Looking forward to getting this on my Fenix 7x.

Live Workout Reserve is individual to your own personal Athletica profile. We could do exactly the same workout, same pace or power, same intervals, same duration. But have very different Workout Reserve values as we progress through the session.

It is calculating based on what you’ve managed in reality recently. It’s not just some theoretical model that says your pace or power is this, therefore have this number, the same as this athlete who happens to hold the World Record but was taking it easy today.

@Marjaana FR955 will be in first running beta wave next week :grinning:

FR945 not far behind please @Phil !

The FR945 is 240x240 pixels, whilst FR955 is 260x260 pixels. Their data field layouts choices are pretty much the same. Should be in the same wave.

Here is the FR945 in the test simulator. I’ll be cracking on with final tests tomorrow, then watch this space…

Love it @Phil … psyched!

I’m looking forward to WR getting down to the lowly 130plus!

@Prof Is the XERT MPA not the same concept? MPA can be monitored live through the XERT app in a workout.

Something to watch whilst you wait

First running devices now compatible, see Garmin Connect IQ Workout Reserve - Compatible Devices - Beta program - Athletica Forum

Yes, Phil, we were aware of the MPA, but there is no open documentation as there is for Athletica WR. We had to read between the lines to understand if we were building a replica of it, or a completely new feature. It wouldn’t be the first (or the last) time scientists can converge to the same idea from different pathways. However, after reading the reference my guts is telling me that the approaches are somewhat different. As you might tell, the exponential behaviour is familiar, but you can equally find it in Wbal models. The fact that in MAP explanation they write about energy and TTE (steady state to failure) makes me thinking the approach is different. Again, not 100% positive, but… also very interesting the mention to the remaining duration to failure, something that can also be extracted by Athletica WR, if we think is relevant.

Installed on garmin 530 just now, looking forward to trying it out outdoors. I just need this freakin’ weather to be decent for 1 weekend to try it and to save my sanity !!

Your device is Garmin IQ API 3.2.0 . The authorisation step with Athletica uses a feature introduced in IQ API 3.3.0. Thus at the moment the data field isn’t compatible with your device. I may be able to get an older Garmin IQ API for your device to work for the auth step. I wouldn’t get your hopes up, but I’ll take a look once I get a breather after running beta rollout.

Wohoo! I’ve got it downloaded into the watch . Now…if I could just get rid of this head cold… and ruuuuun!

Agree it looks similar… thoughts @Andrea ?
