Manually Uploading Data Resulting in Missed Sessions

I think I’ve noticed this before, but there are instances over the past two days where I’ve manually uploaded a .fit file for my recovery walks (I don’t want to post these to Strava) but data hasn’t populated and the session is marked as missed

This seems to be a change that happened 4 or 5 days ago. Manually uploading a zip file fails with a banner saying zip files aren’t allowed. Manually uploading a fit file just fails silently. I found that you can upload a zip file (as downloaded from Garmin Connect) via Settings > Import Data (it’s really intended for uploading a larger number of activity records).

I raised this in a post last week: hopefully it can be resolved.

That has happened with me for my last 2 bike sessions. I normally use zwift and then transfer the .fit file but I am having the same issues. I reached out directly to support and they are working on it so might be a larger system issue.

Hey hey - yes we have a number of folks struggling to upload their .fit files, and I wanted to thank you for using the support.athletica.ai channel and sending over .fit files you are not able to upload. It really is helpful to have those .fit files and potentially also any screenshots to go with those. We are actively working on a solution for you.

Thanks guys,
MJ

Is this still broken? My .fit files from today and yesterday did not properly upload.

Please everyone who has had trouble uploading their fit files: please try again. Seems like someone found out a workaround which is to upload as manual import from your profile. “Import”
Hope this is fixed now

If you’re referring to my workaround, it’s rather more hassle than the previous way of uploading fit files. Plus there’s the oddity that directly uploading the fit file as a zip produces the warning that zip files are not accepted, while they are via my workaround.

does your manual upload work now?

I will be able to test this in an hour or so!

The manual upload of a zipped fit file of a Zwift ride, downloaded from Garmin Connect via the “Add data” screen failed with the red banner saying zip files aren’t supported. Uploading via Settings > Import Data and selecting the zip file worked. So presumably zip files are supported.

I wouldn’t expect zip files to be accepted for uploading to a specific workout since you shouldn’t have more than one fit file per workout. Zip makes sense for the general import as part of some kind of incoming onboarding

Well importing zip files containing a single fit file worked until about a week ago. And last time I checked importing a fit file just failed silently.

This should be fixed now. Please check and if you are still experiencing problems with uploading .fit files, please use support.athletica.ai

Because we’re a small team, we can’t always catch and track issues from forum threads anymore. To make sure your concern gets logged and looked at properly, could you please submit a support ticket through support.athletica.ai? That way it goes straight to our support system and won’t get lost.

We want to help you as quickly as possible, and submitting a ticket is the best way to make that happen. Thanks for understanding and for being part of this community!

I will contact support.athletica.ai after tomorrow morning’s workout!

Hi @Marjaana - A definite improvement! I did an extra unscheduled workout just now, a pace group ride on Zwift. I found that import of the zip file downloaded from Garmin Connect failed with the error “Unsupported file extension: zip” as before, but the fit file extracted from the zip file uploaded fine.

I sent this information to support.athletica.ai as you suggested, along with the zip file.

Best wishes,

Robert

So the .fit file imported fine? But .zip file not?
MJ

Yes, it’s a bit strange that zip files aren’t supported via this route, since the system is happy with zip files uploaded via Settings > Import data

But at least I can upload the fit file when I extract it from the zip file. I sent over the zip file in case there’s something odd with it.
