Hey guys, I have another swim workout recommendation for you! Tracking kick requires a work-around with Garmin (and other wearables too, I think, but I have a Garmin so my solution applies to their devices primarily). When I write a kick set for my Garmin watch, I have to put it in using their “Drill” mode. This is something that can only be done through Garmin’s workout builder or on their watch in an unstructured pool swim workout as far as I’m aware.
This is necessary because the watch uses the accelerometer to track movement and thus distance while swimming. But since hands are on a kickboard while kicking, the watch doesn’t really move, and thus it thinks you aren’t moving and it doesn’t track the distance.
Using the “Drill” mode for kick intervals works around this because Drill mode lets the user tell the watch how far they went. The interval starts, you complete it, and when you hit the lap button is just adds the distance and time to your total. No accelerometer required.
Here is what this looks like in Garmin’s workout builder:
Is it possible to implement this in Athletica so that workouts with kick sets transfer over in a trackable way?
